Bangor junior parkrun is a FREE 2km event for junior runners of all standards, which takes place every Sunday at 9:30am in Bangor Sportsplex (BSP) at Ballykillaire, 292 Old Belfast Road, Bangor, Co Down, BT19 1LU. See our home page for more details.
The 2k timed run can be whatever you want it to be, whether for fun or as part of a training plan.
It offers an opportunity for all the family to get involved and come together on a regular basis to enjoy this beautiful park. We want to encourage people to jog or run together irrespective of their ability – this event is truly open to all and best of all it really is FREE!
Taking part is easy – just register in advance before your first ever parkrun. Your individual barcode can then be used for this weekly 2k run, or on any of the weekly 5k parkruns around the country.
The junior parkrun is a great way to get involved and introduce yourselves to a sport without any of the normal outside pressures. A great way to improve health, confidence and to enjoy a great location. It can also be part of getting fit for sport for your school or to train for a specific target such as the Mini-Marathon trials, or for a full 5k parkrun distance. In short, you are welcome to come along and have fun.
Public Health Agency: The PHA is delighted to support this initiative, encouraging fun, physical activity and community involvement in improving health. Being physically active is important for children. It helps to build strong bones, muscles and a healthy heart. It helps develop social skills and encourages a sense of wellbeing. It’s important that children are introduced to a culture of being active from an early age as it is something that will stay with them and benefit them throughout their lives. For better health, the Chief Medical Officer recommends that children over the age of five years need to take part in moderate to vigorous intensity activities for 60 minutes or more every day.
Northern Community Leisure Trust: Northern Community Leisure Trust is keen to work in partnership with statutory and volunteer organisations to increase physical activity and health and wellbeing opportunities for residents of Ards and North Down Borough Council. NCLT manages a range of services on behalf of the local authority and aims to provide pathways for lifelong enjoyment of sport and physical activity.
