Christmas Day  we are not running a parkrun however Panshanger  are doing 9 am and Harlow 10 am, This chance a to try out  your new running gear from Santa. On the 30th we will be running as normal. On 1st January there is a chance to do Double Header.  The 9 am runs are being held at Pashanger, Gunpowder. Barclay Park will be starting at 10.30.  This is only chance to run 2 parkruns  on one day and clear the Cobwebs away. There is multiple chances to Volunteer throughout this festive period, please contact the team Happy Holidays

And now for something a little different.

The alternative course

I had hoped to be able to post this before today’s run but unfortunately work intervened so I didn’t get the chance. The recent bad weather has taken its toll on our usual course and while we can change the usual route to avoid some of the worst affected areas the layout of the park limits our options to modify the route.

Although some parkruns have a separate winter and summer course this is not our intention. If it is possible to use our normal route we will do and between now and the spring the run director will check the state of the course each week and decide which route to run. If they decide to use the alternative route that decision will be final.

Until the weather improves I would recommend that everyone meet at the cricket club each week to ensure you get to the correct start point.

For those of you who missed todays run, the backup course starts at the top of the hill by the playground follows the usual route then turns left down to the lake then right to follow the path around the lake twice. From there you retrace your steps back to the top path and turn left at the the t junction to follow our usual route around the top end of the park and back up to where we usually leave the lake. Then back past the lake to the t junction to complete a lap. At the end of the 4th lap it is a left turn back to the finish which is in the same place as the start.

Todays run

Thank you to all the volunteers today you were all superstars, especially the marshals who were dropped in at the deep end a bit. Congratulations to all 45 runners especially Michael Waddington, Steve Lucas, Phillip Gayner, Richard Coppen, Valerie Wheeler, Richard Francis, Mark Sanz, Laura Kirk, Emiliy Francis, Vivienne Cobos and Hayley Cannon who all recorded a new personal best and welcome to Tony Wilkinson and Peter Coleman who completed their first ever parkrun with us today.

Friends of Barclay park

There is a meeting of the friends of Barclay park on Tuesday 9th February at 7pm in the meeting room at the Spotlight, as regular users of Barclay park it would be good if some of the parkrunners can be there to support those who look after our park.

Christmas and New Year

We will be running as normal on Boxing day but we are not able to put on an extra parkrun on Christmas day. If you simply cannot wait to try out that shiny new running gear from your Christmas stocking don't forget your barcode is a passport to any parkrun so have a look around as several local parkruns are running.

New years day is always special in parkrun land as it is the only day when it is possible to complete 2 parkruns. We are intending to put on an extra run on New years day but for the benefit of those intending to do the double header or just see in the new year in style we will start at 10:15am. We will run as normal on 2nd January.

As many of our regular volunteers are going away over the holiday period we really need as many people as possible to help us, Please have a look at the volunteer roster and sign up if you can.

Last but not least as many of you will be aware the partnership between parkrun and Sweatshop came to an end in October so we are, belatedly, announcing our final prize winner. We had a difficult choice as three generations of the same family have all been among our biggest supporters, we decided it had to go to one of them but who? After a lot of debate we decided that anyone who can be our first finisher then grab a barcode scanner one week then happily volunteer to be tail runner the next deserved the prize. Please say congratulations to Kevin Francis for being our final prize winner. Thank you to Sweatshop for all the support and prizes and well done to all .

Newsflash…

In the news today: Another Superstar runner gets a new pair of trainers, some strange goings on in the park on Halloweeen and we need some help.
Sweatshop Prize.

Firstly it is time for us to celebrate another amazing winner of our monthly Sweatshop prize, September’s winner started their parkrun journey at our first event back in June and since then has become a valued member of the Barclay parkrun community. With 15 runs and 1 volunteer stint under her belt. During this time she has improved her PB by an incredible 13 minutes (or to put it another way she would now be pretty close to a lap ahead of her first run!)

So please join with us in saying a massive congratulations to Hayley Cannon, we hope the new running shoes from your local Sweatshop help you continue to get faster. Thanks to Sweatshop and parkrun for the generous prize and to all our runners keep on running!

Halloween.

As Halloween just happens to fall on parkrun day this year we think it would be rude not to acknowledge the occasion. Watch out for some spooky goings on around the park and we would really love to see as many ghosts, ghouls, monsters, witches or whatever you would like to dress up as running round the park or volunteering. Watch this space for more information and if that isn't enough Halloweeen running fun why not head over to Cheshunt after the parkrun to dodge some Zombies in another 5k (https://www.broxbourne.gov.uk/leisure-sport-and-recreation-parks-and-green-spaces/event/zombie-zurvival-5km-run)

Volunteering.

We still have a number of gaps in the Volunteer roster over the next few weeks, for this Saturday we still need a couple of marshals and a finish tokens person. For Halloween we need some Marshals, timekeepers, a barcode scanner, a grim reaper, a few ghosts and a tail zombie.

If you would like to volunteer please drop us an email to barclayhelpers@parkrun.com

Thanks

The Barclay parkrun team

Congratulations…

When it came to deciding the winner of the sweatshop prize in August it was difficult to choose and unusually for this message we wanted to acknowledge the special contribution two of our runners made during August, both ran regularly, volunteered and when they saw a fellow parkrunner in distress they both interrupted their run to help. We are very glad to have both of them as Barclay parkrun regulars.

In the end we can only have one winner and we are delighted to announce that the Sweatshop prize winner for August is Steven Pilcher.  Congratulations for both winning the prize and for your recent wedding, we hope you enjoy your new running shoes fitted at the local branch of Sweatshop when you get back from your Honeymoon. Thank you to sweatshop for the generous prize and to all our runners, keep on running and we hope you reach your running goals.
