Barrow parkrun 286

Barrow parkrun 286

It was bright and sunny on Saturday for the locals and the tourists to make their way around our picturesque park.  There was a few local runners missing this week as they made their way to London to run a little bit further in the 2017 London Marathon, well done to you all and we look forward to seeing you all back with your medals.

Milestone runs took place this week with Helen Merrell and Sue Clarkson completing their 50th runs, David Postle completing his 100th run and Karen Maggio Poyntz completing her 250th run.  Well done to you all and thank you for the cakes and fudge that we all shared at the cafe after the run.

Karen is the 2nd person to complete their milestone 250th parkrun, the first being Jacqui Armstrong. Karens first appearance at Barrow parkrun was on 5th November 2011, run number 7.  Since that time she has run 19 personal bests and her current pb is 21.07.  In this time she has finished 1st on  97 occasions, she has also volunteered  numerous times.  Well done Karen and congratulations on reaching this milestone.

This week 151 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 9 were first timers and 23 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 11 different clubs took part.

The event was made possible by 22 volunteers, thank you to all the volunteers, both the ones that you can see round the course cheering you on and the ones behind the scenes making sure our parkrun runs smoothly.

A date for your diary is Saturday 27th May, when the runners and volunteers will be turning Barrow park purple to honour Alice Pyne, this is a yearly event and it would be great to try to beat our course attendance of 208 which was set on 22nd August 2015.

We welcome children at parkrun. Please note that those under the age of 11 must be within arm's reach of a parent, guardian or designated adult of the parents' choice whilst attending 5k parkrun events. It must also be ensured that children place themselves appropriately at the start so as to prevent a situation where they are being repeatedly overtaken. This is to ensure the safety of your child.

See you all soon
