Barrow parkrun event #332 – 10th March 2018

Last weeks parkrun was quite rightly cancelled due to terrible weather conditions so it was good to get back to it this week. Attendance was down somewhat, perhaps due to heavy rainfall or other events taking place over the weekend.
The event began with a quick run briefing by Donna Bates our run director and by 09:00 Barrow parkrun was underway for the 332nd time. 113 participators took on the course, a challenging 5km not at all flat but scenic route. 3 times past the cenotaph and just once over the finish line.
A team of volunteers, several stepping in at very short notice to ensure a safe and enjoyable run for the rest of us made the event happen. Thank you to each and every one.
Donna Bates, Phil Clark, Tony Hough, Ray Robb, David Postle, Emma Gomersall, John Wearing, David Spencer, Gillian Thompson, The Baxendales, Sarah & Alfie Cubiss, Michael Cook, David Shaw, Andrea & Natalia Anderson and last but not least Peter Hall.
It would be really good to have more volunteers to save our Co-ordinater a lot of stress so if you're a regular parkrunner who can take a turn or just feel like helping out please do so. The roster can be viewed at https://www.parkrun.org.uk/barrow/futureroster/ and an email to barrowhelpers@parkrun.com would be most welcome.

Age grade takes age and gender into consideration and is a more accurate way to measure a performance than by the quickest times.
Andrew Hemsley ran his 50th parkrun run this week and will be rewarded with a milestone tshirt supplied by Tribesports. Well done Andrew.
John Wearing, a regular at Barrow parkrun as a volunteer and runner celebrated his 80th birthday this week. Mr Wearing contributes so much to Barrow parkrun in ways that may go unseen by the majority but is very much appreciated. Cakes and biscuits were on Mr Wearing as many meet at the cafe afterwards for a brew and a chat.
Barrow parkrun is free and for all ages and abilities. Register at https://www.parkrun.org.uk/register/ print a barcode and bring it along to the bandstand at 08:50 on Saturday.
There's also a Junior parkrun, a timed 2k parkrun for 4-14 year olds meeting at the bandstand at 08:50 on Sunday.
Come and join us next week.
