Barrow parkrun – 340

Noble familyBarrow parkrun – event 340

Another great turnout with 200 runners/joggers/walkers joining us on Saturday morning to take part in the 5k route around Barrow park.   The sun even made an appearance so winter gear vanished and summer clothing out although it’s debatable how long our summer will last. We had 15 first timers and many of them tourists, no doubt visiting friends and family for the Bank Holiday weekend and an astonishing 42 people recording new Personal Bests which is 21% of the participants improving their time.  Well done to everyone that participated and to our lovely volunteers.

Parkrun reward people with t-shirts once they meet certain milestones.  These include 10 (just the junior runners) then 50, 100, 250 and 500.  Surprisingly, we had no milestone runs this week but next week lots like there will be a few which invariably means cake with coffee, post run.

parkrun is for people of all abilities and ages. If you want to get fit, train for a future race or meet new friends then barrow parkrun provides the solution to anyone’s motivation. Participants can walk, jog/walk or sprint. No pressure is put on people only encouragement to finish the course. If you are a first time runner wanting to join us it is recommended that you register at http://www.parkrun.org.uk/register/barcode and arrive at the bandstand at 8.45am for the pre run briefing. Please bring along your barcode if you want your time to be registered.

We also have a junior parkrun which is held on Sunday at 9am and is for kids aged 4 to 14. Children do not have to run with an adult for this event and the course is shortly at 2k. More information about this event can be found at http://www.parkrun.org.uk/barrow-juniors/
