Barry Island parkrun – ‘C’ Course

Our ‘C’ Course will be used on the occasions when our regular 2-lap course and the usual 3-lap alternative (think of it now as the ‘B’ course) are both unavailable. This should mean that most of the events taking place on the prom and gardens won’t need us to cancel parkrun.  We’re grateful to the Vale of Glamorgan Council for their flexibility in allowing us to use this third variation on our courses.

‘C’ Course Description

Barry Island parkrun - C Course Map

The ‘C’ course is a 3-lap, out and back route, starting and finishing on the main path on Nell’s Point. It also uses the Headland Cross-over - Coast Watch Station - Heartbreak Hill section of our two other courses, but then follows the coast path further round the headland towards Jackson’s Bay, turning round in a small triangular loop on the grassy area just past the new houses. The turn-around point, at the end of the first and second laps, is 60m from the start/finish.

The pre-run meeting point is at the far Eastern end of the prom, near the big white ‘witch’s hat’ and stone circles. The first timers’ and main safety briefings are held here, then the run starts (and finishes) a short walk up the steps on the headland path.

The course is quite narrow in parts with two-way running in two sections, so it’s ‘Keep Right’ course (and sorry, no dogs), like the normal course.

Marshals, signs and cones are positioned at key points on the course (see map) to keep runners and other park/course users safe and on track. Please follow the marshals’ instructions closely at all times and remember to thank them for volunteering.

Watch for a short taped section exiting the triangle loop on the grass. It’s to keep runners clear of some low walls around the park benches there (M6 on the map).
