Event 42 - 6th March 2010

Great to have lovely weather for a visit from one of our sponsors today: GSK Lucozade.  Hope the products and advice aid everyone's training.

Barcodes were out in force today.  Well done for remembering.  Hall of shame for forgetting: one of our race directors!  Sharon!  ......and positions 1, 3, 5, 8, 12, 25, 47, 57 and 63   I'll let you all off going to the naughty step since I managed to forget my barcode on a visit to Bushy.  Your emails are very funny, for example from who shall remain nameless:  ' I was a naughty boy today and forgot my barcode! I finished ****'

Sharon G allowed her tan to fade a little before resuming timing duties.    Apparently she saw the BIG FIVE on safari when really she needn't have travelled since they were at Bedfont all along: Kath was let loose with the tokens after a play on the tyre swing whilst Karl took over Kath Corner.  Young Lily decided to take over photography.  Is there no end to that girl's talents......gathering you in with the Bedfont cowbell, cheering you on lap 1 then taking up the camera.  Martine kept Calm and Carried On with a new role on X-checking and first on our full barcode/barcoded token recording blitz checkout was Chris.  Come and volunteer and you too have parkrun checkout fun.

Team Puff News
They're on the countdown to the Reading Half Marathon.  Two weeks of tapering madness to follow.  If you notice them being batty next week, you'll know why.  When tapering, I usually end up cleaning the house from top to bottom during the intermission breaks from eating.

Proof that you don't need botox just your barcode:
John Paton kept his birthday quiet.  60!  Just shows running and volunteering keeps you young and cheeky but doesn't help you to understand my accent or vocabulary. Belated Happy Birthday wishes from us all. No escape next week when we celebrate Iain MB's 40th.  Cake!

Event 41 - 27th February 2010

Visiting Bedfont for the first time was my friend and training partner, Kirsty Bangham. Lovely to see a podium finish for her (3rd lady) as was seeing in the results Charlotte Elms’s win last weekend.  Well done.
Kirsty has now completed an impressive 172 parkruns and is a regular volunteer at Bushy parkrun which is why I had to mention her fabulous achievement and flash that rather wonderful 100 jacket of hers.
Duncan Mallison (our winner this week) and Charlie Burt are now so tantalisingly close to their 100th parkrun: 93 and 91 runs completed respectively. We will soon have a mini brace of 100 club members with our Martin Chambers (already a member having done 22 of his 106 runs at Bedfont).
What you may or may not know is that Kirsty and Kath Adamson (of Kath Corner who was on timing duty this week) put up with me for miles and miles of training every week of the year. True friends indeed.
I feel I should mention the formation of a wonderful group who from small beginnings are training to tackle the Reading Half-Marathon. Team Puff, I’m going to call them, led and coached by Charlie Burt are putting in the miles in this batty weather.
Rob Curtis, Melanie Roberts and Kate Coombes – I am truly in awe of your effort, improvement and application.
On a different note, the lovely Martine who dishes out your finish tokens out every week recently moved house and despite calamities week in week out still turns up to volunteer.  She now travels some distance to Bedfont parkrun, such is her committment to you lovely parkrunners.  In you look in the photos, you'll see a nice pic of her receiving a mug with the words 'Keep calm and carry on'.

Keep up the good work and will someone please switch on the 'Nice Weather' button as they leave.

Ta

Heather Trench Feet.
