Hello 2018

Event number 449
1st January 2018

2018 started with a cold snap but 461 hardy runners were not deterred and chose to start the new year with a Parkrun. The route was quite muddy, very muddy in some parts but 38 people still recorded new personal bests. We had 88 first timers, don’t be put off it’s not always muddy! And representatives from 57 different clubs took part.

For the last 3 years I’ve started off with a double park run starting with Black Park and then doing Upton Court. This year was different, I started off the year by volunteering. I turned up at 8.30 and reported to Fred who gave me my role. One of my first jobs was to stand just beyond the start to make sure everyone kept to the path and didn’t run in to the dreaded post at the first corner. As someone who usually starts in the last third of the runners, it was exciting to see what life is like at the start line. I had a great time volunteering as I got to meet and talk to so many more people then I normally do when I run. I would definitely recommend going on the rota and volunteering as it gives you a completely different perspective on a Parkrun.
