Race Report 28 August 2010

Showers don’t dampen the park run fix!!

Squally showers replaced early morning sun but 277 chased race leader Colin Gell but to no avail as he recorded his first win in a time of 18.11. Colin was running for the fifth time and ironically this was his slowest time!!

Second home was Rob Taylor , the sprightly Stockport Harrier in 18.39 but also recording the highest age rating of the day at 86.77% …..Age ratings are a way of comparing times against the world best for your age and sex. It thus becomes possible to compare a 23 year old male performance against a 62 year old female time as a performance percentage……So mums and dads, you may have actually beaten the kids on an age related performance and bragging rights may still be yours!!

Graham Screawn finished third in 18.49 and just 8 seconds from a PB , while Janet ( his wife ) was involved in one of the sprint finishes of the day to finish 129th .

Watching as everyone finishes, its interesting to see the great fun had by all, the friendly rivalries, the dash to the line and the congratulatory shake of the hand as unbeknown someone sneaks up and pips you on the line!!

Paul Cooke junior in 22nd was first young gun home in a time of 20.47, with Sophie Williams first junior female home in 61st and a time of 23 minutes. Paul did not bother with just a “10 club” shirt he is also the proud owner of a “50 club “shirt!!

John Adams in fifth place and a time of 19.16 was the first debutant home.

We also welcomed Christian Chilton from Brighton who finished 13th.

First lady home was Alison Vesey of Altrincham, finishing 23rd in 20.49.

Christopher Johnson while finishing 42nd in 22.08 also recorded his 6th PB in 6 consecutive weeks …..Next weeks results are eagerly awaited!!

Julie Fairclough who helps “mums on the run “also helped more to break through the 30 minute barrier: Well done all!! Julie can regularly be found acting as a pacemaker with flag in hand to help you to break the magic barrier.

Photos should be uploaded any day: Our apologies but technical maestro Rob Downs is on holiday!!

100 club update ……Its mighty close!!
Brian Platt is on 96 and tied with Chris Hammerton with Gill Dickinson on 95. Advantage may be with Brian as there is a missing Oldham result that has to go on …..It’s an awesome performance from all three .Brian has also completed 23 park runs away from our own Bramhall event!

Have a fantastic week and we will see you for more thrills and spills next week.

Thanks to all that helped.

Happy running from your park run team.

Race Report 21st August

Debutant Mike Sawrey wins in a rapid 16.18!!

Apologies for the delay with results and report but with our maestro Rob Downs on holiday, the foot soldiers are manfully trying to fill his big boots!! Photos from this and last week should also be uploaded soon. Thank you for your patience.

Following the previous weekends damp weather, we were back to a warm and sunny park run and 239 running the park.

One person that certainly shone brightly was first timer Mike Sawrey who won in a rapid time of 16.18. The next two places were also filled by relative newcomers with 2nd place going to James Bundred of Trafford in his second run with a time of 17.31 and 3rd place taken by Colin Gell in 17.54 in his fourth run. James was also first in the JM 15-19 category.

First lady home was Hannah Jarvis of Stockport in 9th with a time of 19.29 and just 10 seconds away from her PB.

We welcomed 32 first timers to the park while 36 PB’s were also recorded.
Andrew Ward in his 14th race finished 12th in 19.50, his highest placing and for the fourth race in succession recording a PB!! It does not get much better!!

Further back, Katie Martin in her 11th race finished 211th but also recorded a PB of 31.51. It’s a real success story for Katie who first ran in April and recorded a time of 38.53. Well done Katie.

We also welcomed to the park Neil Sunderland who is a regular park runner in the south and was wearing his 100 club T shirt finishing 113th.

Chasing the 100 club T shirt are Brian Platt, Gill Dickinson and Chris Hammerton: All are well into the 90’s and closing in fast on the cherished black Nike 100 shirt. With Gill away for two weeks, it could be advantage Brian and Chris ……..Watch this space!!

Interesting to note that we had 23 “50” club runners turn out this weekend and 9 “10” club runners , with many more to follow.

As always many thanks to our team of volunteers.

See you all next week, from your parkrun team.

Nike Sports Bra Promotion

Nike Sports Bra Promotion

Experts from Nike will visit Bramhall parkrun this week to give free advice on sports bras.  They will have a full selection of Nike sports bras and are offering the unique chance to "test drive" their products at the parkrun.  They are bringing a changing area but please make sure you arrive at least 30 minutes before the start of the run if you'd like a trial.

Getting the correct bra is at least as important as having the right shoes so please come along, get some advice and see the latest Nike advanced running wear.  This is quite short notice so please spread the word to all your female running friends.

Nike are an important sponsor of parkrun and have supported us since the start.  They also provide the treasured and hard earned 10/50 club shirts.

Race 117 August 14: A Young victory

A Young Victory

As we remarked last week, the holiday season has failed to significantly dampen numbers and another 242 of you joined us this weekend. However spirits might have been dampened somewhat by the traditional British August weather as were greeted by intermittent showers this week.

Indeed in the week leading up to this Saturday’s run there were concerns that we might have to cancel or start the course further up the hill because of the flash floods that the Bramhall area has seen.
However come race day the river hadn’t burst its banks although the course was decidedly slippy with corners rather treacherous.

Up front I decided to run and many months watching from the sidelines and found myself chased all the way around by two juniors from Trafford AC, Alex Young and James Bundred. Alex was running for just his second time at Bramhall, while James was a Bramhall new boy so both were I think following me to ensure they went the right way!

Sure enough on the big hill on the second lap Alex made a decisive move and very quickly opened up a 30 yard gap to leave me trailing, though I just about managed to hold off James to finish second. Now that both know the course I am sure they will be back! James also had the pleasure of recording the highest age grading of the day with 81.15 per cent, a great effort.

Elsewhere in the top 10, first-timer Michael Jolley came 9th in 18.58 while just ahead of him Steve Knowles made a further impression on his PB with 18.45 for 8th.  A little further back Andrew Ward scored a PB for the third week on the trot with 20.04 and is now one of many regulars who are edging ever nearer 20 minutes.

Jayne Lawton from Stockport Harriers was first lady this week in 20.37 in her debut run, while Emma Vernon matched her PB to come second in 21.27 and third was Clare Hudson in 22.13.

Jim

Rob Adds:

This was Jim's first run in his new 40+ category and he didn't do too badly for an old man, managing to hold off one of the youngsters on this occasion.

Many of the regular Bramhall team will be on holiday over the next couple of weeks so please try to help out when you can before and after the run.  If you'd like to have a go at marshalling, scanning or any of the other tasks please email
BramhallHelpers@parkrun.com.  Otherwise you can help a lot by just looking out for less experienced parkrunners and helping them do the right things at the start and finish.

And of course bring your BARCODE!
