Brentwood parkrun #44 – 17 October 2015

Brentwood Parkrun
Event number 44

There's no doubt about it - autumn 2015 has arrived in South Weald. During course set up it was surprisingly mild but as the morning progressed it seemed to feel colder and colder and colder....although it was notable that some runners finished carrying their extra layers of clothing. Despite the obvious change in season the course is in good condition with only a few muddy areas. With just 75 days left now until the end of the year I'm hoping that it stays that way for as long as possible. Today's conditions certainly suited race winner Anthony Came.

This week we welcomed several tourists including Matt from Chelmsford. Matt is busy touring the Essex parkruns for the next few weeks and it was a pleasure to meet him today. First timers today included Colin and Becci. Colin was particularly keen to get his first parkrun started having arrived at 8:20. Post run, Colin remained moderately more enthusiastic about 'parkrun number 2' in the cafe than Becci. I look forward to seeing you both again next week.

It always amazes me each Saturday morning, as the clock edges closer to 9:00AM, when people start arriving from all different directions around the park. It's great to see so many friendly faces and have the opportunity to catch up. Today was a special Saturday because the September Sweatshop prize winner was announced. Big CONGRATULATIONS go to Jemimah Knightbridge - looking forward to seeing your new trainers soon.

We had 115 runners and 22 first timers on the day. In addition we had 26 personal bests(PBs), and 8 different athletics clubs were represented.

Susan BANNOCKS (Phoenix Striders) 2627 pts.
Trudie EMBERY (Unattached) 2474 pts.

During the last few months it has been a pleasure to meet so many new runners. In particular I'd like to mention David Mackay who gained another PB today - 27:54 (51.61%). I remember when David's target was to achieve a sub 30 minute at Brentwood parkrun with an age grade better than 50%. Awesome David. On another note: we're are rapidly approaching the 1st anniversary of Brentwood parkrun. Looking at the current women's standings- Is anyone going to be able to stop Virginija taking the title this year!!!! There are a few contenders...

Today's full results and a complete event history can be found on the Brentwood Parkrun Results Page.
As well as checking on this site regularly, don't forget that you can also find us on Twitter and Facebook.

Weekly reminders:
1) we do ask that children under 11 are accompanied by an adult. We know there are some very fast children in our regulars and sometimes adults can't keep up, but the rule is there for a good reason.
2) please keep your dog on a short lead at all times during the race. You know your dog is friendly; other park-runners don't!
3) please, please only go through the finish funnel once, always take a ONE token and always give it to the token scanner; tokens are NOT medals to take home!
4) and of course, remember of your own barcode every week, keep it dry and clean - we don't want you to miss out on your official time

Our volunteers:
We are very grateful to the volunteers who made this event happen:Jack BAILEY, Georgina BARRON, Dawn BARTLETT, Jude BARTLETT, Peter BLACKLOCK, Amanda EMBERY, Dominic HARRINGTON, Heather KENNEDY, George LLOYD, Lorna MESS, Daisy MESS, Gavin MESS, Phil OLSON, Laura RIDEOUT, John TAYLOR

and finally...
So just a reminder that everyone is welcome to a Sunday morning run on Weald park with other runners each Sunday (starting 18th October - and then throughout the winter months) at 10:00 am; the more the merrier. See 'Weald Park Warriors' Facebook page for more details (this group is not affiliated to Parkrun).

Bring your friends and DON'T FORGET YOUR BARCODE to the next parkrun!
