Dog related accident

Last Saturday at Wilverley we unfortunately had our first injury due to an uncontrolled dog belonging to a member of the public.
Caroline Barnfield was running with her own dog on a short lead when the loose dog left it’s owner and tripped her.

Caroline has emailed to say:
‘I just wanted to thank other runners last Saturday, 12.01.19, especially the kind man who stopped and helped me to the finish after I was knocked over near the last T junction by a large loose dog.
I have numerous facial lacerations, a broken nose and swollen knees. I don't know how I managed to finish as I felt very dizzy and concussed. Also thank you to Mick for the first aid!

Kind regards
Caroline’

We hope that all dog walkers are aware of their responsibility to control their dogs in the Forest. However this incident shows that it is imperative that we all take great care in the presence of uncontrolled dogs.

Dogs in Wilverley Inclosure

Our winter course in Wilverley Inclosure is perfect for sharing parkrun with your dog as there’s plenty of space on the tracks after the first congested 100m.

However please abide by the simple rule that ‘Dogs ARE allowed at this venue but please keep ONE dog on a short lead or harness and under control throughout the event.’

If anyone is seen to be running or walking our parkrun with a loose dog please advise them to use a lead and report to the Run Director if that request is not complied with. There are many runners who are intimidated by dogs and being tripped on the gravel tracks is not an experience anyone wants.

Wilverley is a very popular area for dog walkers so please take care if you see dogs that are not under control and warn the owners VERY POLITELY that you are passing.

On a thoroughly cold and wet morning a 101 brave people ran or jogged the course, of whom 6 were first timers. Representatives of 18 different clubs took part.
Congratulations to the 13 who recorded new Personal Bests despite the awful weather and to the hardy Volunteers who battled the cold and damp to produce a perfect set of results.

Well done also to Daniel Corner who led the field home for the 3rd time and to Catherine Smith of NF Juniors who led the ladies home for the 9th time.

One of our regular Volunteers, Peter Haigh of Canicross New Forest, set a new 19:26 PB by almost a minute to also set the highest Age Grade score albeit with the help of his energetic dog.

Kay Bunney joined the 50 Club with all but 6 of those runs at Brockenhurst and young Maddie Harris joined the Junior 10 Club having run all of those at Brock. Maddie has also carried out 6 different volunteer roles so is a great example to us all.

Brockenhurst parkrun #281 – 08th December 2018

After last week's deluge it was a relief to have dry and mild conditions for the 151 people who ran or jogged the course today. We welcomed 14 first timers and visitors from as far away as Jo'burg. Modderfontein there is Clive Dawkins' local parkrun and has a huge attendance record of over 1,800 runners!! Even that is dwarfed however by the 2,500+ runners at one of the Durban parkruns!!

The Finish Team discussed those statistics while everyone was out running (with plenty of elbow room!) and agreed that we're more than happy with our current record of 265 runners!

Representatives of 24 different clubs took part with New Forest Runners dominating those numbers as usual. NFR has 277 runners who have participated at Brockenhurst which is only just short of the total for the next three Clubs combined!

Many congratulations to the 22 who recorded new Personal Bests and to first time visitor Calum Nicol of Thames Valley Harriers who led the field home in 17:28. Well done also to Val Sesto who led the ladies home for the 16th time and set the highest Age Grade score of almost 80%. Despite Val's Ultra achievements her 21 runs at Brockenhurst have averaged 19:42, have always been faster than 21 minutes and PB'd with 18:56! Some consistency.

In a slightly younger Age Category we had twin W10 sisters, Cerys and Morgen Davies from New Forest Juniors starting their parkrun journey. Does anyone remember having twins run before at Brock?

Cerys was the fastest Junior girl today with a very respectable 24:02 first run while another NF Junior, M15 Samuel Cooper, set a new 18:56 PB to lead the Junior men home to finish in 5th place!

Mick

Many thanks to the 13 volunteers (including 5 Juniors!) who made today's event possible and PLEASE consider volunteering at least 3 times a year:

Brockenhurst parkrun #280 – 01st December 2018

The continuous rain and grey morning did not deter the 100 brave souls who ran or jogged our hilly but well protected course. We must say a huge thanks to our fantastic team of Volunteers who produced a perfect set of results despite the damp conditions when the Finish area was the wettest part of the course!

We welcomed 15 first timers from as far afield as Durham and representatives of 17 different clubs took part.

Congratulations to the 10 who shrugged off the conditions to record new Personal Bests and to Peter Doughty of Westbourne AC who led the field home for the 2nd time, only 6 seconds away from his PB set on the College course! Well done also to Caroline Pemberton of New Forest Runners who led the ladies home for the 6th time and also set the highest Age Grade score.

parkrun of course is not a race and not about the fastest finishers. Everyone has different reasons for taking part but getting or staying fit is a common motivation. We applaud the walkers as much as the runners and it's great to see the progression that people of all ages make. This morning, Graham Waters, one of our regular walkers decided to leave his Nordic poles at home and jog and walk to an impressive new PB by over 5 minutes! Well done Graham and to everyone who sees improvement in their fitness levels through parkrun.
