Caldicot parkrun – Event number 6 – 7th October 2017

This week 116 people ran, jogged and walked the new Caldicot/ Rogiet course, of whom 51 were first timers and 10 recorded new Personal Bests (particularly impressive given the new course is harder than the old course). Representatives of 12 different clubs took part. We had parkrun tourists from Forest of Dean, Newport, Riverfront, Little Stoke, Wotton and Pomphrey Hill. Well done to all that took part.

A huge amount of effort has gone in to finding and preparing the new route so thank you to all that have been involved. We hope you all enjoyed it.

The first finisher was Martyn Winser of Chepstow Harriers with a time of 18:05. The first female finisher was Cherry Fowler of Forest of Dean AC in a time of 21:40 – the second time as out first female finisher in just 2 appearances!

Today's full results and a complete event history can be found on the Caldicot parkrun Results Page. When looking at previous results or the event history please bear in mind the new route is more difficult than the old route.

Here is a view from one of our volunteers, Rachel Jenkins, about what it is like to be part of parkrun:

"I got to be part of something amazing today, a volunteer marshal at Caldicot parkrun. If you have the time I would so recommend it, just to see what an absolute phenomenon parkrun has become. When you turn up the other volunteers are so pleased to see you and it’s so well organised that you feel part of their team the moment you arrive. But what impressed me the most today was the diversity of the runners who rocked up to run. The tail runner family, mum, dad, toddler in pushchair and 4-week-old baby! The mum whose teenage son walked the distance with her, the dad who walked the distance with his teenage son. The lady in the wheelchair with the amazing support, the couples running together, the friends running together, the teenage lads, the teenage ladies, the 23 in 23 crew running in support of their friend. Parents running with their children, the lady from Chepstow who turned up on her own for her first parkrun. The guy using it as part of his training for Ironman Wales and last but not least the dad pushing his toddler in its pushchair who ran it in under 19 minutes! Well done parkrun."

Seven people also ran or walked part of the course helping them build up to the full distance. Well done to all that took part.
