Cardiff parkrun will soon be Celebrating their 2nd Anniversary

On Saturday 20th February we will be Celebrating our 2nd Anniversary here at Cardiff parkrun ....

Over the last 2 years we have seen our numbers grow from the 56 that took part in that first event up to the 193 we had take part the weekend before last.

We would like to invite you all, both Old and New parkrunners to come along and join us as we Celebrate this occasion, we would like to see if we could break that magic 200 finishers as part of these Celebrations, having just missed out when we reached our 100th event recently.

As part of our Celebrations we will be presenting some awards based on performances over the last year, these come in the form of :

  • Male Points Winner
  • Female Points Winner
  • Most Male Wins
  • Most Female Wins
  • Most PB’s
  • Highest Age Grade Performance

We will also be doing a bring and share buffet, so we would ask that anyone who comes along makes a small contribution.

We would like to see you all with us on this morning and we hope to see you all at many more events to come.

Thanks

Phil and the Cardiff parkrun team

Parkrun #103 - 13/02/2010

Results delay - your help please

Unfortunately we had a glitch with the timing device today. This is a rare occurance and you could assist us in marrying together the results. The timer recorded the majority of the results but correcting them will take some time.

If you were anywhere from 1-55 in finishing position could you e-mail cardiffPR@parkrun.com with your time if you have it. It would speed up the results somewhat.

We hope to still have the results out later in the weekend.

Many thanks.

I've made the adjustments that I can to the Results, we had a couple of problems with the timer, firstly it decided to record double times in a few places, these now show as Athlete Unknown, then it decided not to record any splits at all!!

As far as I can work out the problem took place between positions 42 and 47 inclusive, these are now showing the time of the next split that was taken, so if you appear in any of these positions and know your time please let me know and I can try and make further adjustments.

Thanks

Phil

Event 102 Report - 6 February 2010

Ed Takata wins for the tenth time this parkrun year - and we get our second highest attendance ....

The regular report writer is away in Spain so I have the pleasure this week!

At 9am the temperature at the start of Cardiff parkrun 102 was 5 degrees.  With there being no wind to speak of, the conditions could be described as nearly perfect.  Ed Takata and Nat Lane (both Cardiff AAC) took it up from the start.  They had completely different agendas today.  Ed was looking for his tenth win in our second parkrun year (this finishes next week) while Nat was running the parkrun as the first half of a 10k time trial.

At the finish Ed was 5 seconds ahead in 16:06 (only 6 seconds off his best time here).  Meanwhile Nat immediately stopped and ran the course again!

These two had more than a minute's lead over the next group comprising Mark Palser (Les Croupiers) 17:16, Elliot Slade (Unattached) 17:20, Richard Wilder (Les Croupiers) 17:30 and Stephen Morris (Wrexham) 17:32.

The women's race was more of a procession as Sally Haselhurst (San Domenico) got her 4th PB in 5 runs to record 19:02.  Following Sally were Rhian Hampson-Jones (Highgate) with her first parkrun in 19:42, then Rosie Richards (Brecon) 21:48 and Claire Beatty (Les Croupiers) 21:50.

This was our second highest attendance at 182.  Our second anniversary is in 2 weeks' time so maybe we will see more than 200.

There were 30 first timers and 28 PBs.  The following all recorded a PB of more than a minute - Sheryll Gail Holley 272 seconds, Spencer Clarke 260 seconds, Michael Gibbons 121 seconds, Elain Diosi 113 seconds, Rosie Richards (Brecon) 105 seconds, Dai Gorwill 101 seconds, Neil B Williams 86 seconds, Andrew James Jones 83 seconds and Julia Abbott 68 seconds.

Once again the Age Grade performance top spot this week went to Sandy Johnston (Les Croupiers) {VM60-64} with 83.65%. There were another seven another 80%+ performances this week - Mick Tabor (Les Croupiers) {VM55-59} 81.99%, Ron Morris (San Domenico) {VM60-64} 81.80%, David Coles (Les

Croupiers) {VM50-54} 81.12%, Huw Roberts (Bridgend) {VM50-54} 80.91%, Nat Lane (Cardiff) {SM30-34} - with his first run - 80.64%, Elliot Slade (Unattached) {JM15-19} 80.29% and the race winner Ed Takata {SM20-24} 80.12%.  Incidentally Nat completed his second run in about 16:15!

Young & Old ~ our youngest competitors today were Nikita John (Unattached), Julia Abbott (Unattached) and Jordan Bowen (Unattached) in the Jnr 14 Age Group. While at the other end of the spectrum we had Errol Alexis (Les Croupiers) in the VM70-74 category.

In the points competition we are now using the new system that allows you to collect the top score of 100 pts on a maximum of 3 occasions for Volunteering. That means in the Ladies Competition Steph Davies (Pontypridd Roadents) has an unassailable 221 pts lead over Eirian Arwyn (Les Croupiers). While in the Men’s top spot is held by Glyn Sansom (San Domenico) who leads by 903 pts over Phil Bristow (San Domenico).

Not forgetting all those who gave up their time this morning to help make today’s run possible ~ Nick DUKES; Andrew SEDGMOND; Jenny HUGHES; Sylvie LLOYD; David PROUD; Brendan JONES; Eirian ARWYN; Alan BLADEN; Jo HENDRY; Neil HENDRY; Mick McGeoch; Juliet SIDNEY; Howard BROWN; Stephen OWEN and Jeff ASTON

Event 101 - Report 30th January 2010

An unexpected light covering of snow in places didn’t stop them turning up for this mornings Cardiff parkrun ….

Over the Christmas and New Year period we had seen the numbers drop off slightly, then we had our Record field last week for our 100th Edition, so what would be in store for Cardiff parkrun 101? It was dry morning and the sun was trying to break through, there was no real wind to speak of, but it was a touch on the cold side, there were one or two patches of frost and the odd dusting of snow, but we took precautions at the turn around point on put down some salt, but once again this didn’t seem to have too much of an outcome on our performances today, we had 166 finishers, among them we had 22 PB’s recorded, and 22 first timers today.
.

Since Cardiff parkrun started back in February 2008, we've had 1696 runners from 131 different clubs record a total of 2043 PB's, this gives us a total of 8027 runs completed adding up to a total distance covered of 40135 Kms.

In the Men’s event, it was Ed Takata (Cardiff AAC) that led the way as they approached the 1 Km marker, Ed had a lead over 2nd place Nick Dukes (Les Croupiers), who in turn had an advantage over Stephen Morris (Wrexham AAC) and Frank Handy (New Forest Runners), there was then a dotted string that followed with Gethin Holland (Aberystwyth AC), followed by Rory Heslop (Unattached), then youngster Matthew Grantham (Unattached), next to show was the group of 6 ~ Robert Wigginton (Unattached), Rob Sage (Les Croupiers), Huw Davies (Unattached), Glyn Sansom (San Domenico), leading lady Sylvie Lloyd (Unattached) and Richard Self (Les Croupiers). They then made their way around the playing fields and past the Millennium Bridge to the turn around and then retraced their steps, as they neared the end of the playing fields and approached the Blackweir Bridge it was still Ed that was clear up front, and Nick was still isolated in 2nd. Behind there was a close battle for 3rd between Stephen, Rory and Frank, there was then a gap back to Gethin who had an advantage over Rob. Next to show was Richard closely followed by Sylvie, with Robert and Matthew giving chase. In the final Km there was no change for the leading 2, as Ed recorded his 25th Win in 67 Cardiff parkrun appearances, Nick held on for a steady 2nd, while Rory moved through to take the final podium spot in a New PB, closely followed by Stephen, Frank had lost ground but held on to 5th as 5 broke the 18:00 barrier. Probably the performance that caught the eye of everyone this morning was that of youngster Matthew who recorded a top 10 finish and ran a PB by 46 secs with a time that places him 4th on the JM14 All time list.

In the Ladies event, Sylvie Lloyd (Unattached) was planning to make an attack on her PB with the help of some even pacing from one of the male runners. From the start Sylvie stuck to her intentions and got into the mix with a group of 5 men, behind Libby O’Duffy (Les Croupiers) was trying to keep Sylvie in her sights and take advantage of the pace being set. Maria Zubizarreta (Les Croupiers) was the next to pass, could she close in on her PB set last week? There was then a string of ladies as they were interspersed with their male counterparts, Julia Warner (Cardiff Tri), Aileen Lyons (Unattached), Ladies points’ leader Steph Davies (Pontypridd Roadents), then Jane Lewis (Unattached). Claire Beatty was being closely tracked by Marcia Migay (both Les Croupiers) with Rachel Banfied (Unattached) next to pass. With the next 3Km completed it left the final Km to be negotiated, Sylvie was still managing to shadow her pacer, while Libby was still maintaining sight of our leader, with Club mate Maria still holding 3rd. There was no change behind as Julia and Aileen passed in 4th and 5th respectively, Marcia was moving through the field and had now taken up 6th place and was closing in on Aileen. There was no change at the finish, Sylvie couldn’t quite hang on for her time but still recorded her 6th Win in 7 runs, Libby made good use of the situation and recorded a PB by 7 secs in taking 2nd place, Maria was just outside her time of last week but recorded a podium position once again.
