 Event 143 – 20th November Report

Today, we had
181 finishers; among them we had 27 PBs and 20 first timers.

Since
Cardiff parkrun started back in February 2008, we’ve had 2853 runners from 178 different clubs complete the race 16806 times covering a distance of 80430 kilometers.

In the men’s race, the lead was taken, and kept, by James Thie (Cardiff AAC) with club mate Nathaniel Robert Lane behind in second. Carlton Rowlands (Unattached), running his first Cardiff parkrun, found himself in third place coming into the fields past the 1km mark. Mark Palser (Les Croupiers) was fourth with Lian Davies (Islwyn RC) and Oliver M Williams (Unattached) on his heels. Just behind them in 7th was Frank Hardy (New Forest Runners) with Rory Heslop (Unattached) in 8th. Elio Lepore was up in 9th with Ben Moon (Unattached) in tow, whilst Glyn Sansom (San Domenico) was in 10th ahead of a large group.

Coming back towards the 4km mark, James had extended his lead over Nathaniel slightly, with Mark moving up to 3rd with Lian on his shoulder in 4th. Carlton, in 5th, was ahead of Frank, with Oliver behind in 7th ahead of Rory.

In the last 200m, Lian managed to get past Mark to take 3rd, whilst, behind them, Frank finished 5th, as Carlton fought off a late push by Oliver to keep 6th place. Rory finished two seconds behind Oliver to take 8th, as Ben and Jonty Davies (San Domenico) finished strongly to get new PBs in 9th and 10th respectively. Glyn took 11th place, ahead of Nick Dukes (Les Croupiers) who had fought his way through the pack after starting further behind to take 12th position. Elio took 13th ahead of Robert Jackson (Unattached) in 14th and Sam Haysom (Unattached) in 15th, having completed his first Cardiff parkrun.

In the women’s race, the early lead was taken by Stephanie Davies (
Pontypridd Roadents AC), with Wendy Owen (San Domenico) behind in second and Liz Ashton (Les Croupiers) third. Liz moved past Wendy just before the Blackweir bridge and then Stephanie shortly after in the Blackweir fields. Behind them were Maria Zubizarreta and Sarah McCarthy (both Les Croupiers) in 4th and 5th with Jilly Holroyd (Cardiff Triathletes) not far behind. Jennifer Hughes (Les Croupiers) was running alongside Angharad Rhys (Unattached) in 7th 8th at this point with Jennifer Corbett, 9th, (Unattached) a bit further behind.

Wendy managed to overtake Stephanie to move up to second during the field section. Unfortunately, Liz pulled up just before the halfway mark with an injury and didn’t record a finishing time. Wendy now had the lead, and led going back through the fields, but was reliably informed by her pacer, Alistair Wood (San Domenico), that Maria and Sarah were slowly catching up. Jilly was in fourth at this point, ahead of Angharad in fifth.

Wendy eventually managed to keep the lead until late into the 4th kilometre where Maria pulled ahead in the last 200m, dragging Sarah and Wendy behind her to finish 1, 2, 3 to the surprise of Derek at the finish line.  Jilly recorded a PB in 4th place, improving on her previous best by 13 seconds. Angharad finished 5th ahead of Stephanie in 6th.

Event 138 – Report 16th October 2010

A cold morning the day before the Cardiff Half Marathon…

… sees 139 finishers; among them we had 33 PBs and 15 first timers.

Since Cardiff parkrun started back in February 2008, we've had 2728 runners from 172 different clubs complete the race 15015 times covering a distance of 75075 kilometers.

In the men’s race, coming up to the first km mark were Michael Kallenberg (Carmarthen & District Harriers AC) and Nicholas Wood (Dartford Harriers AC), alongside Matt FURBER (Crawley AC), Stuart Crees (Les Croupiers) and Jerome Edwards (San Domenico). Just behind this group were Henry WRIGHT (Unattached), Gareth THOMAS (Cardiff Triathletes) and Julian BAKER (Les Croupirs) and Eliot Slade (Unattached).

Coming back to the 4km mark, Michael Kallenberg had now stretched out a lead of 15 seconds over Nicholas Wood, stretching slightly further over the last km to take first place in his first Cardiff parkrun. Another 15 seconds back in third place was Jerome Edwards, with a 20 second gap back to Stuart Crees and Matt Furber. Eliot Slade had moved up to 6th place at the 4km mark, but went on to take 4th place, beating Stuart and Matt, who took 5th and 6th respectively. Henry Wright took 7th ahead of Julian Baker and Gareth Thomas, with Rory Heslop (Unattached) rounding off the top 10.

The ladies race saw the top two runners remain the same from the 1km mark. Sarah Tunstall (Kendal AAC), running her first Cardiff parkrun, had already established a good lead over Charlotte Jane Wells (Brackla Harriers) at the first km marker. Jane Coker (Les Croupiers) and Sally Wilder (San Domenico) were the next two to cross the 1km mark together.

On the way back, Sarah Tunstall‘s gap was 30 seconds over Charlotte Jane Wells. Jane Coker crossed the 4km mark together with Sally Wilder, but Sally went on to take third place. Kate Coker (Barry & Vale Harriers) passed the 4km mark just ahead of Stephanie Davies (Pontypridd Roadents).
