It was another beautiful sunny morning for parkrun at Castle Park. There was a sense of anticipation for the match in the afternoon (yes!!!) but as ever, parkrun never ceases to amaze. We were lucky to be joined by a few international tourists, but one in particular was extra-special.
Gurkha Bishnu is running 207 parkruns in 5 years and today was Castle Park's turn where he was running number 25 in his quest. Not only is he running, but he is doing so with a 22kg doko on his back. A doko is a large hand-woven bamboo basket which is used to transport goods, and is traditionally carried on the back. Bishnu was carrying it today in the hot weather and managed an amazing time of 27:46! You can read more about him here and donate to his fundraising for the Gurkha Welfare Trust: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/johnny-gurkhabishnu
This week 304 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 42 were first timers and 36 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 13 different clubs took part.
The event was made possible by 28 volunteers. As ever, we are looking for more volunteers, especially for the next few weeks. Please think about volunteering as a way of supporting the event and contributing to its success:
