Run Report for Event #281

Whether it was the sunshine, or pre London Marathon running fever but a whopping 773 of you turned this into a record breaking attendance for Chelmsford Parkrun.

WK #281 (30)

A big welcome to the 69 first timers who were getting their first taste of the Parkrun experience, we hope you enjoyed it and we see you back for many more.

WK #281 (13)

It was good to celebrate all those runners who have worked hard over the winter months to get themselves marathon ready , no doubt there are a few aching muscles for those who have made their way round 26.2 miles over the last few weeks and around our capital on Sunday in scorching conditions.

WK #281 (24)

While we are celebrating congratulations to the 88 of you who made good use of the lovely weather to start your, weekend with a PB, well done to you all.

WK #281 (300)

With such large numbers in attendance it makes it all the more important to listen to the run brief, whether you have heard it 100 times before or its your first time. Please show some patience in the funnel whilst you wait for your friendly volunteer to hand you your token to go and get scanned.

WK #281 (594)
You might be in a rush but ducking out of the funnel can cause havoc when it comes to processing the results.

Parkrun encourages anybody and everybody of all ages and abilities to take part but ask that any U11's do so within arms reach of a parent or designated adult(this is an insurance requirement) , 5K is no mean feat but our younger runners should not be left to tackle it alone.
Here is a reminder of the parkrun rules and guidelines.

If you you have concerns about your U11 running this 5k, there is always the superb option of the Chelmsford Juniors parkrun held on Sundays in Central park.

Run Report for Event #278

This week 569 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 41 were first timers and 51 recorded new Personal Bests.

The weather has certainly set us some challenges this year!
Snow a few weeks ago meant a cancellation and this week a rather lot of rain has fallen and this usually means flooding on the course.
We have had worse but this picture shows the underpass last night at about 7pm!!

IMG_20180330_174845

It was fingers crossed for the morning and luckily the water had subsided but did leave a mud residue in the tunnel, a bit better than two feet of water to go through!

However, this usually means that flooding occurs elsewhere on the course and sure enough when we checked the weir (2km) and "death Valley" water was flowing across the footpath and at the start of death valley.
As we were determined not to cancel, a quick adaption of our normal route was made and the set-up team set out to mark the revised course.
I think you'll all agree they did a fantastic job for you. :)

Those of you who are regulars know at the start of each run we give the opportunity for those of you achieving a milestone level on the day to have at least 10 seconds of fame by stepping out the front for a photo and an applause from all in attendance. Some people are shy or do not hear the announcement so there are always more people achieving than in the photos. We really do like all of you coming to the front, please do step forward.
When the event was set up we had no real concept of the future apart from hoping we could do it each week and that people would turn up. So it is fantastic to see people achieving their milestones and even more amazing to see the 250 achievers coming through, this is the third from the Splarn clan, well done Ryan. The Splarn bus will return next week!

April is the main spring marathon month with the following taking place, I know there are a number of you running some of these so it is going to be great to see all the finishers t-shirts on show over this month.
8th April - Manchester
8th April - Paris
15th April - Brighton
22nd April - London
We would wish all running to have really great runs and to smash your targets but most of all enjoy as not everyone gets to run a marathon (or wants to!)

The event was made possible by 32 volunteers:If you are tapering or resting for the marathons, reached a milestone level now is a good time to give something back by volunteering at the event as we need around 30 volunteers each week.

Gerry MCGOVERN • Paul BROOKES • Brian Stephen CATT • Daniel HARDY • Apryl HAMMETT • John MCCAYNA • David JEFFREY • Toby MILLS • Rob HAWORTH • Thomas HAWORTH • Elizabeth SURREY • Claire ANSBRIDGE • Sandra LEVEY • Matthew PERKINS • John GREEN • Abby NORMAN • Mandy COXON • Rachel GRAY • James HAYES • Antony KARAS • Jane GRAY • Emma KEUTENIUS • Michael THOMAS • Francesca KARAS • Maureen KREAMER • Timea TOTH • Clive WITCOMB • Peta LAGER • Joseph ELDRED • Sophie SCOTT • Laura HAWORTH • Don COCKRELL

Run Report for Event #277

An uneventful parkrun just how we like it; no funnel duckers, no complaints from other park users, no incidents, and even the dogs were quiet!. If not spring like the weather was certainly warmer than the previous week.

WK #277 (9) WK #277 (1)

40 first timers joined us for their first parkrun at Chelmsford Central Parkrun, and a healthy 76 of you recorded personal bests, much better than the 19 PB's we had last week.
