Well done to 708 happy and highly-motivated parkrunners who turned out on Saturday morning, including many first-timers – welcome to the parkrun family!
We welcomed 708 runners, of whom, as with last week, 50 were first-timers! 31 volunteers helped to make the event fun and safe for everyone. 35 of you recorded personal bests, and runners from 38 different clubs took part. Well done, also, to all those who achieved milestones: volunteering at 25 events, or completing 10 (junior), 50 or 100 parkruns.
On a particular Health and Safety note, please do remember that nearly every week we welcome a visually-impaired (VI) runner who completes the course with a guide. They wear very bright orange hi-viz vests to make it easier for other runners to take special care when passing them. This week, a couple of runners cut too closely across her path, which all involved found distressing. Be sure to stay aware and pass with extra space and caution.
Our fabulous team of volunteers was, as always, cheerful, helpful and kind. One volunteer of particular note is Amelia, who volunteered for her 100th time – well done for your dedication!
Our FIFTH BIRTHDAY at Chelmsford parkrun is next week! We’re looking forward to welcoming everyone, including some former core team members, and sharing memories of small beginnings, icy running conditions and nervousness about how we would cope with breaking 100 (remember those days?!). Feel free to wear your fave fancy dress to help celebrate! I’ve already heard rumours of some hilarious outfits...
I’m handing the RD baton over to Gerry, who will be next week’s ringmaster. Thank you, everyone, for being such lovely people. YOU make parkrun what it is! Chelmsford, you are superstars!
Please check our Volunteer Roster to see if you are able to help out at anytime, there are plenty of roles available to do and all are rewarding and great fun.
