Run Report for Event #294

On another hot Saturday morning with the ground rock hard and the grass parched to a cinder, 701 of you from 37 various different clubs and numerous parts of the county took your place at the start for Chelmsford`s 294th Parkrun.
We welcomed 40 first timers this week.
Just to show the global appeal of Parkrun  we were also joined by a couple of tourists from South Africa who were most complimentary about the lovely course and considering their home is in Durban and incorporates the Golden mile along the coast it was high praise indeed.

Thanks to all this weeks volunteers who made your run, walk and jog possible and with summer holidays now upon us now is a good time to try out that volunteering experience. There are many varied roles and it provides a completely different perspective to Parkrun.

Run Report for Event #293

Once again it was a hot sunny Saturday morning that greeted 591 of you for your free weekly timed 5k run jog or walk around the parks.

Wk #293 (3)

Congratulations to all the milestone achievers this week and a special well done to Shengbing Zhu who is our latest addition to the 250 club with with 249 of his runs being at Chelmsford .

Wk #293 (17)

Each week we are joined by more enthusiastic first timers and this week was no different with 40 more people looking to enjoy the warm atmosphere and the lovely parks on route.

Wk #293 (14)

With so many events in the park over the summer it can make things very difficult when it comes to planning the course to ensure your run goes ahead each week so your attention during the run brief and listening to marshals on the way round is most appreciated.

Wk #293 (4)">Wk #293 (16)

With no end in sight to the hot weather please stay hydrated and look after younger runners and dogs as 5k in this heat takes a lot of effort.

Wk #293 (374) Wk #293 (414)

As ever none of this can happen without our willing volunteers , and it takes quite a number to put on an event with 600 plus participants week after week and there is some stalwarts among them.

Wk #293 (410)

So a big thank you to the following 36 stars who stepped up this week.

Therese BRABANT • Holly CHANDLER • John MCCAYNA • Malcolm CRESSWELL • David JEFFREY • Mack JEFFREY • Carl EASTON • Steve BUGDEN • Jody WALKER • Rich WALKER • Paul TURNER • Clementina ELEADY-COLE • John GREEN • Julie SANDERSON • Callum DARBY • Rosie CARPENTER • James HAYES • Christopher SAYWELL • Jane GRAY • Michael WALTER • John SPILLANE • Kerry DARBY • Nicola DESSOUKI • Sue GILBERT • Tracy ANDERSEN • Grant PLAYFORD • Richard WALKER • Susan PARTON • Jane MITCHELL • David CHATTERJEE • Maureen KREAMER • Jenny PLAYFORD • Celine COUSTON • Don COCKRELL • Valerie MITCHELL • Andrew BIBBY

Thanks and see you next week.

Run Report for Event #292

Well done to all 596 parkrunners who showed up on this swelteringly hot Saturday to walk, jog and run 5k through Chelmsford’s Central Park. There were a lot of soaking-wet athletes picking up their tokens at the end of their run! It was also a bit of a challenge due to the modified course, but you seemed to enjoy it – we’ve had lots of positive feedback. People were particularly surprised to discover the field with the football pitches!

37 first-timers decided that this was the day that they would joined the parkrun family, and we also welcomed a number of parkrun tourists – welcome all to Chelmsford!

42 enthusiastic volunteers made sure that the event went smoothly. If you haven’t yet volunteered, come along and try it! All volunteers are always welcome – just let us know when is best for you and we will put you on the roster. 33 athletes recorded personal bests this week, and runners from 35 different clubs took part.
A huge and heartfelt apology to our milestone achievers this week, as I neglected to call you out during the main run brief – well done for achieving your 10 (junior), 25 (volunteer), 50, 100 or 250 milestone!

Thanks so much to everyone who helped to make parkrun safe and enjoyable for everyone this week and, especially, for our two VI (visually-impaired) runners, Eve and Steve, and their three guides this week. As you know, Eve runs regularly at Chelmsford parkrun; this was Steve’s first time to Chelmsford parkrun and he really enjoyed it!

Next week, you’ll have the distinct pleasure of David as your RD. Thank you, everyone, for being such lovely people. YOU make parkrun what it is! Chelmsford, you are superstars!

Run Report for Event #291

On a gloriously warm and sunny morning (some might dare to say too warm...), 671 parkrunners turned out to walk, jog and run 5k through Chelmsford’s Central Park. What better way to start the weekend?

This week, 34 first-timers and parkrun tourists joined our parkrun family – welcome to Chelmsford! 42 lovely volunteers took care that you would have a safe and enjoyable event, and were really pleased that so many of you took the time to thank them on your way around. Have you volunteered yet? If you haven’t, it’s a great way to get a glimpse behind the scenes and see what makes parkrun tick. We train you and support you, and you make new friends and develop new skills – win-win! Remember, YOU are the volunteers, YOU make parkrun happen! A very impressive 61 athletes recorded personal bests this week, and runners from 39 different clubs took part. Well done indeed to all of our milestone achievers this week.

We had something very special this week here in Chelmsford – parkrun participation by four generations of the Haworth family! Well done for getting everyone out, Rob – it was lovely to see you all together.

On another note, our VI runner, Eve, made a special point of telling me today that everyone gave her a wide berth for safety and how happy and grateful she was. Thanks to you all for being mindful and considerate.

Once again, we had our very popular funnel finish – this route has become our ‘new normal’ lately, we’ve had so many! And we’re due to have some more – next weekend, not only will we have the funnel finish, but we will not have Pacer Day. Yes, you heard me right – no Pacer Day next week, but don’t worry, it’ll be back!

I’ll see you again next week as RD. Thank you, everyone, for being such lovely people. YOU make parkrun what it is! Chelmsford, you are superstars!

Our first timers brief was given by Eve who is our regular VI runner, this was her first time of giving the brief but having 52 parkruns to her name she is well qualified to deliver it. Thanks Eve.

Earlier in June we celebrated our volunteers on National Volunteer week, unfortunately three of our junior volunteers weren't there that week, so today we got them out front to receive their well deserved applause for all the volunteering they have done over the last 12 months.
Thanks guys, we couldn't do it without you.

wk #290 (16)

Todays run saw a lot of our least favourite things "FUNNEL DUCKERS" and "TOKEN MAGPIES".

It is really important for the results that you do not duck out of the funnel. If you do, you affect the times of everyone behind you and makes it more problematic for us sorting out the run times.
You can all help by asking someone who leaves the funnel to politely stay in it, and if they can't for whatever reason, please call the funnel manager over or take two tokens yourself and drop one in the bucket.
If you go past the timekeepers you are assumed to have completed the run for a time and to have it recorded against your parkrun profile, which gets you closer to a milestone tee. If you don't want either, please don't go past the timekeepers, just veer off. This will then keep the results in order.

wk #290 (406)

This week we lost 5 tokens to token magpies! Please remember these are not your reward for running and are actually the property of parkrun (it states that on the token!) and we need them each week.
If you find them in your pocket please return them next week.

ADVANCE NOTICE: We will not be running #chasethepacer day on the 7th July. This is due to having two other events in the parks on this day. This will not give the pacers a fair chance to run at their alloted times as the route will need to be amended for the other events. It will be back on the 4th August.
