A couple of weeks ago, Gedling junior parkrun celebrated it's 2nd birthday. This week, we were 100! How is that possible? Only by the magic of junior parkrun!
Our 100th event was marked by a splendid display from that bright shiny thing in the sky (the sun!) which made for a beautiful morning for the 46 small sets of legs who ran, jogged and walked 2km of our fantastic Gedling Country Park.
Lyndsey donned the run directors hi-vis for the first time ever, three cheers to Lyndsey for doing this, and apparently she enjoyed it so much, she wants to do it again! Hooray!
Big thanks to all of our splendid volunteers that got to time you (Myles & Ewan), Scan you (James & Jack), hand out the finish tokens (Kelly & Louis), marshalling and giving out hi-5's (Jo, Rachel, Joanne, Jonathan, Zoe, Jenny, Emma, Clare, Samantha, Sam & Jayne) and making sure no one got left behind (Helen)
We couldn't run the event without the help of these hi-5 giving hi-vis wearing heroes. We are always welcoming new volunteers, so if you fancy giving it a go, please drop Richard an email, or put a comment on facebook. He'd love to hear from you and we'd love to see you.
Once Lyndsey had done the pre-run brief, our team of DofE volunteers led the warm up with plenty of energy and enthusiasm, grown ups - please be careful of the little ones during the warm up, one little person got tripped up and got a poorly knee, please make sure there's plenty of space around you!
Well done to Ciaran who was presented with his half marathon wristband, don't forget you can print out your certificate from your parkrun profile at https://www.parkrun.com/profile/
And then they were off! First across the line was Finn, Reece and Lewis, and for the girls it was Tegan, Amy and Chen, well done!
There were 5 new personal bests recorded, maybe the sunshine was encouraging you to run faster and get an ice cream! It was also the first time ever to junior parkrun for eight of you, we do hope you enjoyed it and come back soon.
Once the tail walker was home, it was time to clear up and get those results processed and enjoy the bank holiday weekend sunshine.
Next week it's event 101 with Helen and Yasmin sharing the run directors hi-vis. Enjoy your week and see you on Sunday!
