Barcodes required at Glasgow from 6th February

The date from which you MUST have your barcode is 6th February 2010

We're today announcing that Glasgow will be a barcode only event from 6th February 2010. To get your official time, you MUST have your barcode from that date onwards. If you don't, you will be listed as an Unknown Runner, and you won't know your time, or earn points.

As parkrun continues to grow - it now has well over 50,000 registered runners - it is becoming increasingly difficult for our volunteers to find many of you manually. We have increasing numbers of runners with the same name, and that's only going to get more difficult as more parkrun events start. Scanning barcodes is also much easier, more accurate, and far quicker for you, and our registration volunteers. With our barcode enabled finish tokens too, registering runners with barcodes takes a few seconds.

Adoption of barcodes has been very good in Glasgow - most of you are using them now which is really great - but there's a small number of you who haven't yet made the switch. So we're hoping the 6th February date - which is five months after we first introduced them - will give you the nudge you need.

To help any of you still unsure what to do, we've put together a couple of tip sheets to help you locate your barcode, and protecting it if you don't have access to a laminator. We're afraid unprotected barcodes stuffed in shorts tend to crumple, and that makes them very difficult to scan. At the very least please protect it in a plastic bag, and pin it to the inside of your shirt.

Thanks for your understanding!

Regards,

The Glasgow parkrun committee
