A Cool Autumnal Wind on the Cliffs

Gorleston Cliffs parkrun 71 : Report

For the past two weeks our leader and director, Chris Harbord, has been away. In has absence all the volunteers have done an excellent job to keep the show on the road with little visible sign of panic. Thanks go to all of them but we will all be very pleased when Chris returns - really.

When Carl Prewer of Lowestoft RR runs he usually wins. This week was no exception, his time being an excellent 16.45. John White of Bungay Black Dog RC came second in 17.35 a PB and the best performance of the day; 82.6%. Third was Marcos Sanz of Bellahouston RR in 17.46.

In the ladies race Victoria Swanston was first in 24.10 followed closely by Paula Jones of Ampthill and Flitwick Fliers RC in 24.12 and Lorrain Dawson of GYRR in 24.57.

In the points tables Nick Overy leads Stephen Leeves by 203 and Pauline Richardson leads Avril Lilly by just 9.

To clear up some confusion juniors receive a park run t-shirt after 10 runs but adults need to complete 50 runs before being sent the coveted red "50" shirt.

Wendy Sutton's 50th Run, a victory for John White and a young visitor from Durham

Gorleston Cliffs parkrun 70; REPORT

On a windy, humid morning with the temperature already in the mid twenties (degrees centigrade) 68 people and the A team of volunteers gathered for Gorleston’s 70th parkrun. Everyone applauded Wendy Sutton's 5oth parkrun.

John White from Bungay Black Dog RC took an early lead and pressed home his advantage to win in 17.59. This represents a great comeback for John who has battled against ME for a long time. This was a new PB and John’s performance of 80.7% was the best of the day. Second was David Hughes in 19.11 and third Keelen Pywell of GYDAC in 19.19.

Pauline Richardson won the ladies race for the 9th time in 24.21 with Lorraine Dawson second in 24.51 and Celia Odell third in 25.29.

In the points competition the very consistent Nick Overy leads Stephen Leeves by 199 and Avril Lilly leads Pauline Richardson by 87.

Out of 68 finishers 42 were male and 26 female. We hope the one brave faller, with cut knees has made a quick recovery.

We were pleased to welcome young Josh Clark, 13, from Durham - he did very well in coming 7th overall in 21.08.

LOST PROPERTY

HAVE YOU LEFT SOMETHING BEHIND?

After holding on to a bright yellow pair of shoes for months, they were finally claimed last week. There are 2 heavyweight tops which we have had for much longer which will be dumped at the end of August if they are unclaimed.

The latest addition from about 3 weeks ago, is quite a good looking black waterproof jacket. PLEASE claim this if it is yours, or it will be disposed of at the end of September.

RUN NUMBER 68 REPORT

TWO BIRTHDAYS AND A WEDDING THIS WEEK.

Two birthdays and a wedding this week Chris Cooper and Glenn Ellis were adding a year, while Chris Meadows was starting the  day of his life with a parkrun. Undaunted, their respective positions were 2nd, 18th and 7th. Chris' future sister-in-law, Rachel Allen is the winner of the July Sweatshop Prize.

After a night of rain which may have reduced attendance somewhat, the course was damp while the weather itself gradually improved. Four newcomers were tempted out to join us and eight more personal bests were attained.

Congratulations go to Avril LILLY who recorded a performance of 71.58% in the Age Graded competition. Four others exceeded 70%. These are % of world records, so they are no mean achievement!
