MESSAGE TO ALL OUR parkrunner HEROES |
|
|
WE HAVE RECEIVED AN EMAIL FROM A NEW parkrunner
I thought you all should see this message from one of our newer parkrunners, Mike Southern:
"Hi,
Just a quick email to say how much I enjoyed taking part in my first Parkrun at Gorleston Cliffs this Saturday, it was a really nice friendly atmosphere and well organised. I have been training since last October but hadn’t run with a group of other people before and got a real buzz from taking part. Tony Ludlam had suggested that I give it a try and I am very glad I did.
Before the start I thought that I might make it round in about 27 minutes, when I went past the 4km marker in just over 20 minutes I realised that 25 minutes might be in sight, but having put every ounce of energy into the run up until that point I just didn’t have enough left in reserve for a final push, I was however very pleased with 25:17…. maybe next time?
Many thanks to the organisers and volunteers for creating such a unique event with a real community feeling, I felt privileged to be able to take part and the event has given me a real taste of the boost you can get from sharing a sport you enjoy with a group of other people even though the majority of them were complete strangers at the start of the run.
Kind Regards
Mike Southern"
Thank you Mike for your kind remarks, and can I add my thanks to all of you who made Mike's experience so good, and to Tony Ludlam for sending him our way.

FEB 2010 SWEATSHOP PRIZE WON BY A BEST ATTENDER - PETER SMITH
We are pleased to announce that this month's Sweatshop Monthly Prize winner is PETER SMITH
Congratulations to PETER who has now run 42 times with 11 PBs improving by 9 MINS 3 seconds to a 68% age-related score. PETER leads the points table with 3826 points. He shares top attendance of 42/45 runs with Howard Wilcox - also a recent Sweatshop prizewinner.
We'd like to thank Hugh Brasher of Sweatshop for his generosity and to congratulate PETER on his achievement. His prize is a new pair of running shoes fitted at the local Sweatshop.
The winner is chosen by the event director or members of the committee designated by him. The successful candidates are usually selected by a lottery which is weighted by the number of times they have entered in the month.
However, we can award the prize for other reasons at our discretion. If you know someone who has overcome adversity, personal illness or is deserving in any other way, please let us know by emailing gorlestonOffice@parkrun.com and we promise to consider your nomination.

Event # 45 |

Two first time winners and a triumph for youth
Gorleston Cliffs parkrun No 45 - Report
Just as the over-night rain cleared away 50 runners lined up on Gorleston cliffs to tackle this weeks 5k park run. It is noticeable that each week the field is comprised of a hard core of regulars out to beat their own pbs or to win, a number of steady runners who do it week in week out and a smattering of new faces there to taste what it's all about for the first time. It is pleasing to see many regulars amongst the slower athletes.
In the men’s race we had a new winner - Paul Whall in 18.42 who had a very close race with Kevin Sharman, 18.47, both of who remained clear of fast finishing Kellan Pywell. It was very good to see two youth runners in the first three.
In the ladies race Bobby Sauerzapf won for the first time in 23.59 beating Louise Bernaconi, 24.33 with Tamsin Desborough, 26.10, in third place.
Special congratulations to Paul and Bobby but well done to everyone who took part. They all beat all those who were still in bed !.
Peter Smith is a most deserving winner of February’s Sweatshop prize. Peter has run in more Gorleston parkrun events than anyone else and clocks extremely impressive times on a regular basis. Well done Peter.
