It took a bit of wrangling behind the scenes, but eventually we were able to settle who was going to RD on the 1st day of 2019 - so here we go! 10:30 on 1st January will give those most enthusiastic of you to get to Clare Castle and then back again to do the double; what a great way to start 2019??
We have a fine record of being able to offer you the extra two runs over the holiday period but this year we are going to restrict ourselves to just the one, on Christmas morning. We will be on site for your Christmassy delight and delictation for a 9.30am run, but with the absolute minimum of volunteers; one RD, one timekeeper, one on finish tokens and a couple of speedy people taking over barcode scanning and tokens if needed, plus one person as keeper of the gate.
It is decidedly possible mince pies will be available on the day but you'll have to come along to find out!
Great Cornard parkrun core team.
Today I had the pleasure of visiting Great Cornard parkrun for the first time the morning after I attended a wedding in the local area.
The wonderful two lap course did not disappoint and it was nice to run mainly on grass which had its green colour back again. Apparently this week we were somewhat light on volunteers but despite this I found the course very well marshalled at all the key points and would not have known. I was welcomed into the Great Cornard 'team' when I arrived pre-run and this continued during the run as we were given a lot of encouraging support from the eager volunteers as we ran around which which always helps. I found the event very well organised by Natalie, who was today's run director, and her wonderful team of volunteers.
Amazingly, 20 of you managed to grab a new PB today which is wonderful considering the warm temperatures we've experienced lately!
Many thanks goes to the volunteer team without whom, parkrun could not happen week in week out. Do consider signing up to one of the many rewarding volunteer roles available. Please see the roster page at parkrun.org.uk/greatcornard/volunteer/ for details of where to sign up!
We are very grateful to the volunteers who made this event happen: Andy BRAME, Sharon BREWARD, Adam BULACZ, Piotr BULACZ, Lucy COWLIN, Sid HAYGREEN, Natalie JONES, Scott MANNING, Cliff MANNING, Jennifer MERRY, Adam MUMFORD, Matt POWELL, Charlotte RICHARDSON, Emma RICHBELL, Dee ST LEDGER, James WOOD
Thank you for a great start to the weekend and I do hope to visit again soon!
Last year we weren't able to offer an extra event on Christmas Day and New Year's Day. But that all changes for 2017.
We will be offering additional events on BOTH days this year and both will allow you a little lie in, if you're so inclined. New Year's Day we will kick off at 10:30 so you can also do other local events and nab yourself a parkrun double.
Keep an eye on our Facebook page for more information; we do like a bit of dress up on New Years!
It is with regret that for our scheduled event on Saturday 30th January, we will be cancelling. The route is getting saturated and waterlogged in places which is causing a lot of wear, is becoming increasingly damaged, worn and, in some places, slippery and potentially dangerous under foot.
With further rain forecast this week we feel that the safest course of action is to take a week off and let the ground recover.
BUT that doesn't mean you get to take a week off! There are many local events to explore as either a runner or a volunteer.
I'm going to head to our friends at Colchester Castle parkrun; it would be great to have friends there for company, or you could visit Ipswich, Kesgrave, Chelmsford, Thetford, Great Notley, all within a short journey of home.
We fully intend to be back for the following week, 6th February; see you then.
