IT problems New Years Day

Our wonderful new years parkrun is being overshadowed by IT issues. Only one of the scanners contains any data therefore half of our positions don't have runners attached to them. If your result is missing please email grovelandsoffice@parkrun.com your name, athlete ID, and finish position (or your finish time) and I will manually update the system. I'm not sure how this happened, but I'm very sorry. Best wishes Vanessa

Grovelands parkrun – Event number 327 – 12th November 2016

All credit goes to the volunteers this week, who stood in the pouring rain to ensure the parkrun went without a hitch. One stopwatch failed so massive thanks to Ilia Loubenski for ensuring the timing was accurate. There was a huge list of runners to manually input as barcodes were too soggy to scan, so thanks to Sara Earlle (umbrella holding), Zoe Macgechan, Ananya Churchill and David Bickley for ensuring all the runners had their barcodes written down accurately. Naresh Trivedi did a sterling job handing out finish tokens and Grace Curran was a great tail runner ensuring the field finished safely. Thanks to Susan Smith for marshalling and Nigel Wick for overseeing operations.
This week there were 105 runners, of whom 7 were first timers and 10 recorded new Personal Bests. Credit must also be paid to Adri Hartveld (aged 55-59yrs) who broke our Age graded record, achieving 86.29 % with a time of 18:07.

It was Grovelands 6th anniversary today and what a glorious morning it was! As well as fruit and biscuits today, Kayla Izzet, who is 6 years old, made cakes for everyone. Alkin, her Dad, made a short speech on behalf of Kayla thanking everyone at Grovelands parkrun for the warm welcome she received recently after not attending for 6 month and for the continued encouragement she is shown every time she runs. He stated that runners at Grovelands parkrun are the epitome of a parkrun community; surrounded by sunshine and smiling faces, today really was special parkrun.

2015-2016 has been a good year for Grovelands parkrun. We have seen 1279 runners complete the course and our average number of runners has increased to 138 per week. Grovelands parkrun – Event number 282 – 2nd January 2016

This Saturday some of us completed five parkruns in eight days, if you include Oak hill parkrun. More than 500 5k runs were completed over these five events which is fantastic, some even achieving PBs despite the Christmas over-indulgences. Thanks must be given to the 25 volunteers who enabled those runs to take place. A few people volunteered more than once, including our cherished Lucy Pitter who volunteered both at Grovelands and at Oakhill. In true Nativity fashion, it was great to welcome baby George Anthony on Christmas day, along with the Volunteer Angels and of course many wise men!
As everyone hopefully starts 2016 with a new enthusiasm for their running, it would be wonderful also if all our parkrunners could feel equally excited to volunteer! It would be fantastic if you could pencil in a few Saturdays of your parkrunning calendar this year to volunteer. We rely entirely on volunteers to ensure each parkrun happens and it would make your Run Directors really happy to know they will be supported ahead of the day. Please email grovelandsoffice@parkrun.com your availability.
After the good news of our plentiful running, I have to unfortunately share with you an email we have received from one of our fellow park users who was walking his dog this Saturday. He has written to complain that some of the runners were too running too close to him, were barging into him and one runner spat at him (he acknowledges this may not have been intentional). It is very disappointing to receive an email such as this as we have worked really hard to gain the support of other park users, especially the dog walkers. We must consider this complaint seriously and think about the impact our growing parkrun has on our park community. Whilst I am sure almost every runner would never barge into anyone, sometimes we can be distracted and lose our awareness of others as we try to beat our personal targets. We must appreciate we are a large crowd of runners and we share the park with everyone; we have no right of way and we must be considerate to all. Please, please, please keep to one side of the path and be attentive and respectful to other park users at all times.
