A year on from the wonderful Olympic games and 205 runners with 21 fantastic volunteers arrived at Gunnersbury parkrun. The sun was shining and it was an expectant atmosphere. Our run director Arlene Gallagher welcomed first time runners at Gunnersbury - this week there were 31, and included fellow parkrunners from as far afield as Huddersfield, Manchester and Bushy Park! We hope you all enjoyed the run! The route was explained for anyone who had never run a parkrun before, and this week there were 26 people being welcomed into the parkrun family.
One of these, Sebastien ZAJACZKOWSKI, finished in 17:51 and was over the line 2nd, behind a regular Riel CAROL who crossed the line in 16:47. Justin LEE finished third in 18:17. The ladies were led home once again by Helen TARANOWSKI (18:30), followed by Isobel REA, another regular winner finishing in 20:13. Catherine STEPEHENS was 3rd in 22:14.
3 runners this week achieved age gradings of over 80%, well done on this achievement to Riel CAROL (80.14) John Joseph QUIRKE (81.19) and Helen TARANOWSKI (82.70)!
Lora MAXWELL (JM15-19) joined the 10 club today, congratulations, while Shivaun O'SHEA AND Dan HOUGHTON both completed 49 runs and will be joining the 50 club on their next runs! It is great to see the number of red shirts appearing reguarly at Gunnersbury. It is worth mentioning here that our 2nd anniversary is fast approaching and the leaders in the men and women's annual points competitions are Dane RYAN and Kirsten LUKSCH. Check out the full standings here.
In our army of fantastic volunteers were a number of juniors. They volunteered as part of the Joinin initiative and it was lovely to see how enthusiastic and responsible they were. Jonah THOMAS who took on the role of handing out finish tokens said it was "interesting seeing familiar runners", he "had to look twice". Finn THOMAS was one of 3 junior scanners who did a great job along with Ryan and Michael MORAN, said "it was interesting seeing all the names on their barcodes and encouraging them". There were also a few mini parkrunners who marshalled with their parents and took themselves off to the cafe for a well earned treat. Next week, if you have a 10, 50, 100 or 250 t-shirt, it would be great to have you volunteer. Please email the office if you would like to try a role at firstname.lastname@example.org
Please note there will be no parkrun at Gunnersbury on 31st August but we are lucky in this area to have a number of choices within a few miles, including Wormwood Scrubs, Richmond and Old Deer Park.
Finally, well done everyone who achieved a PB this week, including Teresa CONNELLY who in her 19 runs has improved her time from 39:30 to 31:06. Well done Teresa! Also Alex HICKMOTT (JM14) who this week was the first junior and got a PB of 18:57 and an age grading of 74.85%! One to watch for the future, well done.
Well that's all folks, have a fun week running, see you all next week!
Short note from Arlene:
Please be careful on the course. We are aware that the paths can be dangerous and we are working hard to raise awareness in the hope these will be upgraded soon. This week we had a faller, who got quite badly shaken, bruised and bloody. We hope you feel better soon Fiona Lavelle, and that it doesn't put you off come back to us in future.
