We are thrilled that guest runner Gillian wrote our report today!
Gunpowder parkrun # 280 - 18 March 2017
You are so lucky to have the skylarks, drowning out the M25 with their beautiful song and serenading the 141 parkrunners as they snaked colourfully around Gunpowder Park.
Congratulations to Adam OHara, a first timer and tourist from the Portsmouth area who was the first to breeze through the finish tunnel in 18.22. He was followed home by Christopher Weedon, very much a local parkrunner, in 19.25, ahead of Paul Reddaway in 19.31.
For the ladies, Marilyn Martin was out alone, finishing in 23.26, but a closer battle ended with Jennifer Howes finishing in 24.58 (a massive PB!) and holding off Sarah Riley in 24.59. Well done to you all.
Also, many congratulations to Joseph Magen (JM11-14) and Sinead Ryan who both achieved their 50th parkruns today and will no doubt be looking forward to wearing their red Tribesports T shirts soon.
Running conditions were good today – dry, mild, not too windy and with an intermittent sun lifting spirits but not making us too hot – so 21 of you made the most to achieve PBs – well done. Of these, I’d have to select Lucy Luck for the random PB mention of the week!
This isn’t a complicated course, but it still requires at least six volunteers a week to make it happen, so thank you very much to this week’s volunteers: Esther Green, Bethany Green, Barry Hooper, Syd Morter, Shilpa Patel, Joanne Plumb, Paul Reddaway and Wendy Reddaway. Without them, there’d be no PBs and no parkrun at all.
Back to the start and Run Director, Bethany Green, informed us that there will be training for the new defibrillator, which you so quickly fundraised to acquire. Twenty regular parkrunners can sign up to join the training session which will take place on Saturday 15 April. Good luck with that and let’s hope you don’t actually need to use it.
Finally, a reminder that the next coffee and cake get together after parkrun will also be on Saturday 15 April (Easter Saturday), so do plan to stay for that.
Thank you for having me.
