There’s a bit of a bite in the air at this time of year, but mid November proved no deterrent to 469 runners, walkers and joggers who enjoyed the bracing seven degrees and mild winds. That’s a massive number of participants, which usually only happens around the Easter and May bank holidays.
Thirteen First Time parkrunners bit the bullet too. Plus, a whopping 85 Personal Bests were achieved, so don’t be disheartened by the colder weather and get out there! Simply layer up and get a out there.
Anyway, an unknown runner – could it be Mo? Could it be Calum? Could be a person who probably forgot their barcode – was first back. Matthew Wilkinson of Nidd Valley Road Runners came second in 18:10, while Saltaire Strider Steve Fowler took the third spot at 18:32.
Folk from as far away from Fareham, Farnham, Marlow and the East End Running club saw fit to join us instead of filling their faces at Betty’s or cadging samples off the Christmas Market stalls. Or maybe they were doing that later. Marlow’s Oonagh Thompson completed the course in a mere 24:26, taking the top age grade of 78.31%
Stormin’ Sophie Chumas, was the first lady home at 20.32 and with a PB to add to the collection. Anna Stocks of the Hyde Park Harriers came second in 21:02, with Sharon Hardcastle not far behind at 21:11
Huge congratulations go out this week to Jacob Samuel Handslip & Blythe Warner who join the Junior 10 club and to Jane Hill who joins the 100 club.
And that's about it for this weeks roundup...Thanks Adam for writing the run report.
Just a few reminders....
Post run refreshments - Join us at Caffe Marconi (2 Princes Square) each week after parkrun to catch up, process the results, have a coffee and a good old chat. The food and drinks are great and Sarah and her team are huge fans of parkrun! It's good fun and you can even get your result early!
In Case of Emergency - Please double check that your emergency contact details are complete and up to date on your parkrun profile. You'll find a link to your profile on your weekly results email and newsletters or via this How can I access my profile / account? link. It only takes a few moments, put could really help us to help you if and when you most need it.
Barcodes - Is your printed barcode looking tired or not scanning easily? There are a range of tough and durable plastic parkrun barcode ID tags and parkrun wristbands available via http://www.parkrun-barcode.org.uk/ These are the only UK authorised and professionally printed tags and feature the parkrun branding and logo, your athlete details and can also be personalised with your ICE (In Case of Emergency) telephone number and additional information including specific medical details. They come in a range of options and can be attached to a key ring, laces, and running vest zip or worn on a lanyard.
Volunteering - We do ask that each of you, if possible, volunteer 3 times over the year. It is thanks to our great volunteer teams that parkruns around the world continue to happen every Saturday. Harrogate is no exception and without your kindness we would not be able to put on this wonderful free event. If you would like to help out please visit http://www.parkrun.org.uk/harrogate/volunteer/ for more information or talk to anyone in a yellow vest on parkrun day and then email us at firstname.lastname@example.org to get involved. If you still want to run don't let that put you off we have lots of jobs where you can still run !
