Harrogate parkrun No. 316, a day of many great things. The day began with a fresh faced Dan VENTRESS pulling on the Run Directors Hi Viz for the first time. Dan at 15 years old is one of the youngest Run Director to have looked after Harrogate parkrun and was doing it on the day of his 50th
It was cold and damp as the many volunteers arrived each donning their Hi Viz then starting to put the course together but this was not to be any ordinary Harrogate parkrun, today it would be in reverse with a start by the toilets and a new style finish!
We often have to alter the course during the winter to avoid causing undue wear to the grass and crucially to avoid the crocus beds. We would ask all runners to please pay particular attention to the red flags each week and ensure you run around them and as close to the marked course as possible (and please don't take offence if fellow runners shout you to stick to the marked route )
After a brief introduction Dan took his place on the famous podium (better known as the park bench) and delivered a perfect briefing covering all the points and safety factors like he had been born to it.
The run included quite a bit of mud and water but then again it is January in Harrogate so what else would we expect.
First male back was Andrew DOBBY in 17:38 and first female Lisa Maria MAWER in 21:11. There were a wonderful 17 first time parkrunners who we trust will all be back to play in the Harrogate mud again very soon. There were a total of 331 finishers looked after and cheered home by 31 wonderful volunteers. Of the 331 runners 22 managed new personal bests in what we're very difficult conditions.
We had some very special runners with Justin LOCK running his 50th parkrun, Andy DEIGHTON and Andrew HARRIS running their 100th parkruns. Well done to each of you for a brilliant milestone. I think it only right that we finish with two ends of the spectrum by once again giving a shout out to Dan VENTRESS on his 1st Run Directing and finally to mention something very special Alexandra WHAPPLES completed her 250th parkrun which goes beyond brilliant. Congratulations Alexandrea on an absolutely awesome achievement.
See you all next week. Cheers Jeff (Jeff Walker)
Just a few reminders:

It only takes a few moments, put could really help us to help you if and when you most need it.
Barcodes - Is your printed barcode looking tired or not scanning easily? There are a range of tough and durable plastic parkrun barcode ID tags and parkrun wristbands available via http://www.parkrun-barcode.org.uk/ These are the only UK authorised and professionally printed tags and feature the parkrun branding and logo, your athlete details and can also be personalised with your ICE (In Case of Emergency) telephone number and additional information including specific medical details. They come in a range of options and can be attached to a key ring, laces, and running vest zip or worn on a lanyard.
Volunteering - We do ask that each of you, if possible, volunteer 3 times over the year. It is thanks to our great volunteer teams that parkruns around the world continue to happen every Saturday. Harrogate is no exception and without your kindness we would not be able to put on this wonderful free event. If you would like to help out please visit http://www.parkrun.org.uk/harrogate/volunteer/ for more information or talk to anyone in a yellow vest on parkrun day and then email us at email@example.com to get involved.
