Weather conditions this weekend were not ideal at the start to December for Ali Joyce's successful first stint as run director – even if the countdown to Christmas was underway and we look forward to our Santa run on Dec 22nd.
However, despite the fact it was a grey, rainy day, it did not stop the people of Hazelwood Park Run turning out. This week 57 people ran, jogged and walked the course, eight were first timers and we had one new personal best (Sam Clayton with a time of 23:21). We had representatives of fourteen different clubs and gave a warm welcome to a runner who had travelled all the way from Liverpool.
As the horrible weather passed, it made way for a wet, muddy and slippy course that tested all our participants.
Our first male finisher was Philip Andrews of Ramelagh Harriers in a time of 21:36, our first female finisher and a first timer was Rachel Revett, also of Ranelagh Harriers with a time of 23:43. Jon Clark of Thames Turbo Triathlon getting the best age grade of 69.72% in the category of VM50-54. Unfortunately, there were no anniversaries this week for any runners, however Kelly Kothary has now volunteered on twenty five occasions and now qualifies for a purple t-shirt.
I know its said every week but I cannot stress enough how much we thank the volunteers. This weeks fifteen who helped make the event possible in quite nasty weather conditions were;
Rina VYAS. Alison JOYCE. John MAXEN. Callum STEWART. Danijela SPASOJEVIC. Jennifer PORTCH. Claire MEDLEY. John WILKINSON. Maxine SELLS. Uday PATEL. Erica SALVISBERG. Kelly KOTHARY. David PLASTOW. Benji DUNCAN. Stuart DUNCAN
As always, especially today, it was lovely to see people staying behind after the run for a sausage roll and hot drink to discuss the challenges they'd faced during the event.
For the record, Hazelwood parkrun started on 17th March 2018. Since then 1,558 participants have completed 4,604 park runs covering a total distance of 23,020 km, including 1,106 new personal bests. A total of 159 individuals have volunteered 596 times. Thanks for all your support.
