Happy New Year everybody. The Hazelwood core team all hope that you enjoyed a wonderful New Year and looking forward to a successful 2019 with parkrun.
A good attendance was expected for the first event of 2019 and we were not disappointed. 148 people ran, jogged or walked the course, of whom 42 were first timers and 12 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 24 different clubs took part.
We welcomed 11 participants for whom today's event was their first ever at parkrun. We hope they enjoyed the experience and will return. The UK was well represented today. We welcomed athletes from far afield such as Suffolk, Berkshire, Surrey and Bedfordshire today in addition to visitors from parkruns and clubs from within the M25.
We congratulate Charles Fearn who completed his 50th event today, and Claire Blunden from Dorking and Mole Valley AC who completed her "Dalmation" run (101).
The first male finisher was Graham Sutherland of Clapham Chasers RC in a time of 18:35; the first female finisher was Kirsty Steel of Ranelagh Harriers in a time of 23:48. The best age related result was that achieved by Zachary Bowles in the JM10 category with a score of 76.16%. Well done to them and all the athletes that crossed the finishing line.
It is great to report that we had another completely full volunteer roster with 18 hi-viz heroes helping to ensure the event was a success. We have to thank:
Dan SEARLE • Steve BARRINGTON • Robert LOVEGROVE • Alison JOYCE • Adrian CLEMENT • Andrew CLATWORTHY • Andrea CAVALHEIRO • John MAXEN • Matthew SARTIN • Mel WILCOCK • Charlie CAREY • Claire MEDLEY • Lucy GORVIN • Shaun GORVIN • Uday PATEL • Erica SALVISBERG • Matt SNOWDEN • Benji DUNCAN
Following parkrun, Shepperton Running Group held the first training session for their C25 Course. Well done to everybody that started the course or helped Steve Barrington and his team . We look forward to the latest batch of students graduating at Hazelwood in 8 weeks.
