Hazelwood parkrun event 49

The run report today was kindly written by Laura Stevens, a visitor from one of our neighbour events, Crane Park.

The slightly warmer weather this week brought a healthy field of 109 runners to Hazelwood parkrun, all whom completed the 5km slightly soggy course. The field today comprised of 17 first timers to Hazelwood, 4 of which were running their first ever parkrun, congrats to Simon Koppens, Patti Rogers, Adam Watford & Ava Kelly-Happs, and 7 new PB’s we recorded.

I myself was a first-time tourist to Hazelwood and I have to say they’re a very friendly bunch. All very welcoming and wonderful to talk to.

First male finisher this week was Paul R Williams in a speedy time of 20:36, and our first lady finisher was Fiona Davis in a spectacular time of 25:19.

I do enjoy looking through times for aesthetically pleasing numbers so two special shout outs to David Gladstone who finished in a beautiful 23:23 in 18th place, and to Anna-Lise Christmas who finished in 32:23 in 84th place.

Today’s run was made possible by the following wonderful volunteers:

Steve BARRINGTON, Mark COWELL, Nikki CRAWFORD, Merilyn DAVIS, Benji DUNCAN, Steven HALL, Kelly KOTHARY, John MAXEN, Dorothy Agness MCLENNAN, Claire MEDLEY, Uday PATEL, Matthew SARTIN, Callum STEWART, Lorna STEWART, Lucy SUMMERS

Run Report 48

Hazelwood parkrun 48 by Callum Stewart (DofE volunteer)

On a cold and very blustery day, 70 people bravely faced the winds caused by storm Erik and safely ran, jogged and walked round the 5 kilometre course. Runners safely navigated a large water feature which was the result of a week’s worth of heavy rain. Eight of these runners were first timers and we hope to see them back next week. Four people achieved new PBs and representatives of 6 different clubs took part this Saturday. We look forward to their return visits.
The first male finisher was Mark Cobley with a time of 22:03, only a minute off his PB and completing his 175th Parkrun. Mark Cobley also had the highest age related score of 64.32%. The first female finisher was Rebecca Lennon with a time of 25:59.
Special thanks to the 17 volunteers who helped make this event possible:
Steve BARRINGTON. Rina VYAS. Robert LOVEGROVE. Alison JOYCE. Wendy HAPPS. Paul HAPPS. Helen KYLE. Andrea CAVLHEIRO. David ALLEN. John MAXEN. Callum STEWART. Matthew SARTIN. Charlie CAREY. Clair MELEDY. John WILKINSON. Dorothy Agness MCLENNAN. Benji DUNCAN. Their encouraging words and support for our wind battered runners once again ensured a successful event was had by all.
There are only four weeks left till the much anticipated Hazelwood Parkrun’s first anniversary.

Hazelwood parkrun event 47

Would we, wouldn't we? At 07.45 on Saturday morning, that was the question being pondered on by John, the RD for event 47. With other events in the area having been cancelled due to the weather, and with the priority of safety and welfare of participants uppermost in the mind it was not an easy decision to make. However with careful signage, additional marshals and safety cones, together with a wonderful group of volunteers that were not afraid to shout instructions such as "slow down" or "be careful", we decided to go ahead.

So. on a cold but lovely sunny morning, 105 people, following instructions from the RD, safely ran, jogged or walked the very wet and muddy course, of whom 19 were first timers and 2 recorded new Personal Bests. We welcomed 3 new participants to Hazelwood this week. Hopefully the conditions were not too daunting and we look forward to welcoming their return. Representatives of 17 different clubs took part. Visitors from Nottingham, Tring and Cambridge were welcomed to the event. We also noted the participation of Vin Lam from Singapore Shufflers

The first male finisher as Tom Bedwell of London Heathside in a time of 19:27, and the first female finisher was Kirsty Steel of Ranelagh Harriers in a time of 23:14. The highest age related score was Tim Grose who achieved a figure of 73.69% Well done to them all.

Much is made of the wonderful volunteers, but it is during the middle of winter when their dedication and value is so much more appreciated. So this week, we get on bended knees and thank:
Rhonwen MORGAN-WILDBORE • Steve BARRINGTON • Ollie CLOHERTY • John MAXEN • Callum STEWART • Andrew CLATWORTHY • Mel WILCOCK • Angela GIBBINS • Charlie CAREY • Claire MEDLEY • John WILKINSON • Maxine SELLS • Uday PATEL • Matt SNOWDEN • Margaret LAWES • Jenny JACKSON

All of whom contributed greatly to ensuring event 47 went ahead successfully, especially Charlie who insisted to continue dancing during handing out finish tokens!

Hazelwood (Santa) parkrun event 41

The build up to Christmas is always a special time and when we announced that the 22nd December event was to be a Santa run, little did we realise how many people would support the event by dressing up in festive gear to celebrate the day. We had many Santas, several elves and a running turkey! Thanks to everybody that entered the spirit of the occasion.

With so many participants in fancy dress, it was the participation rather than the time of completion that was of greater importance. However we are sure the Christmas music accompanying the runners, together with the mulled wine greeting the athletes at the finish line knocked a few seconds of several times.

Taking part this week were 134 people that ran, jogged or walked the course, of whom 23 were first timers and 9 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 14 different clubs took part from afar a field as Telford. We welcomed 10 athletes to parkrun for the first time and we are delighted they chose Hazelwood for their inaugural events. We hope to see them again soon. Congratulations also to Helen Christmas who celebrated her 50th run.

Although on such a day, all the participants were winners the first male finisher was Tim Bartholomew of 26.2 RRC in a time of 18:42, and the first female finisher was Lin Lascelles of Maiden Newton Runners in a time of 22:15, who also achieved the best age grade result of 79.25%. Well done to both.

As always, huge cheers to our volunteers that allow the event to take place. This week, we thank:

Nicola LOVEGROVE • Charlie CAREY • Andrea CAVALHEIRO • David ALLEN • John MAXEN • Rohan KOTHARY • Phil WIGGLESWORTH • Claire MEDLEY • Lucy GORVIN • Mathilde RIOU • Maxine SELLS • Uday PATEL • Kelly KOTHARY • Maria HARRISON • David PLASTOW

Hazelwood parkrun Event 38

Welcome to this weeks run report from Hazelwood. I am delighted to inform readers that this week's report has been written by our Duke of Edinburgh Award student, Benji Duncan.
IMG_1606

Weather conditions this weekend were not ideal at the start to December for Ali Joyce's successful first stint as run director – even if the countdown to Christmas was underway and we look forward to our Santa run on Dec 22nd.

However, despite the fact it was a grey, rainy day, it did not stop the people of Hazelwood Park Run turning out. This week 57 people ran, jogged and walked the course, eight were first timers and we had one new personal best (Sam Clayton with a time of 23:21). We had representatives of fourteen different clubs and gave a warm welcome to a runner who had travelled all the way from Liverpool.

As the horrible weather passed, it made way for a wet, muddy and slippy course that tested all our participants.
IMG_1602
IMG_1604
Our first male finisher was Philip Andrews of Ramelagh Harriers in a time of 21:36, our first female finisher and a first timer was Rachel Revett, also of Ranelagh Harriers with a time of 23:43. Jon Clark of Thames Turbo Triathlon getting the best age grade of 69.72% in the category of VM50-54. I know its said every week but I cannot stress enough how much we thank the volunteers. This weeks fifteen who helped make the event possible in quite nasty weather conditions were;

Hazelwood parkrun Event 37

This week, Hazelwood welcomed Steve Barrington as RD for the first time, together with his partner Andrea, as results processor. They both did great jobs and it is good to see new RD's coming into the group.
A chill morning with rain in the air did not deter the 95 people that ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 7 were first timers,(warm welcomes to Kathryn Smith and Ellee Hillier to their first ever parkruns), and 20 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 7 different clubs took part and we welcomed visitors from Cambridge, Burnham and Wimbledon.
Weather and the softer/wetter course certainly influenced the participants. The first male finisher this week was Jon Samuel from Elmbridge RRC in a time of 20:47; Jon also achieved the best age grade result in the VM 55-59 category of 74.58% - a great result. The first female was Freya Bosher in 24:30. Congratulations to both.
There were no major anniversaries this week, but Mark Bosher is now just 1 away from his 50th, and a red t shirt.

A piece of good news was that the athlete that took a tumble last week was back this week after receiving the all clear. It was great him back in action and it goes to show, you can't keep a good parkrunner down!

Later that day at the annual award ceremony held by Shepperton Running Group at Hazelwood,, the parkrun team won the Captains Prize for the individual or group that had done most for the local running community over the past year. This is wonderful recognition, not only for the core team , but for everybody that has helped, contributed or volunteered to make Hazelwood the success it has become. We thank you all and look forward to greater success in the future.
