#145 – 6th October 2018

Lydney parkrun
Event number 145
6th October 2018

This week 105 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 5 were first timers and 20 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 8 different clubs took part.

The weather today was wet and miserable, but this did not deter 105 people from getting their Saturday morning off to a great start. Despite the rain, going in the wooded section was still easy underfoot.

The day kicked off early for a few as Nathan Peart and his team of helpers were setting up early for the Mental Health Awareness event. Here are a few words from Nathan “Today we had a stand at Lydney Parkrun to raise Mental Health Awareness, lots of information, cakes well lots and lots of cake, a great turnout and great company, thank you to David Price for letting us do this, we raised a fantastic £82 Thank you Lydney parkrun. We will be at the Forest Of Dean parkrun on the 13 October. “ Nathan is a regular to Lydney parkrun, so if you would like to have a chat with him sometime, he will be pleased to see you.
I think the gazebo offered some very welcome shelter from the rain.

A huge milestone was achieved by Jamie Lavender, he has now clocked up 50 runs in 9 locations. 25 or which have been at Lydney. He has also done 29 junior parkruns. He has been taking part in parkrun since April 2012 and in that time has run 308km . As some of you will know Jamie had a football injury in October 2016 which left him with his leg in plaster. He has bravely fought his way back to fitness and is still a keen footballer. Well done Jamie.

Next week has the potential for two 100 celebrations, yes Mike Berry you are one of them and the other is Doug Gibson. Doug has achieved PB’s the last two runs, let’s hope he is able to achieve a hat-trick on his 100th.

First male across the line today was Pete Woodward in 17.51. First female was Lisa Jeffrey in 22.14. Pete has led the field home 11 times and Lisa 20 times.

Junior PB’s came from Alex Insall, Emily Alcock and Thomas Phillips.

Well done to all those who achieved a PB today.

Tourists today came from Milton Keynes, Newport and the Welsh Valleys.

Numbers were lower today due to people resting prior to Cardiff Half marathon tomorrow. Good luck to everyone taking part.

A huge shout out for our volunteers today, it was cold and wet standing still. Many thanks to you. A special well done to Logan ARENDELL who has completed his Duke of Edinburgh today after volunteering for several weeks. #139 – 25th August 2018

Lydney parkrun
Event number 139
25th August 2018

On my first visit as ambassador to Lydney I have been allowed to write the run report and it's a pleasure so to do. A crisp and summery morning saw an early arrival at a very quiet car park. Serial tourist Kris Denholm had travelled to Lydney from Bridgend and had been waiting since seven o'clock. There's keen. I wandered round to the start area and met Gary Burley - a relatively new parkrunner - who was there for set up. It looks like he has caught the bug and is happy to help on the volunteer front too. RD Andrew Long soon arrived and we got on with laying out the course, (which promised to be good to firm, so ideal running conditions), before the first timer's briefing welcomed new parkrunners and newbies from as far afield as Lydney :-) Bridgend, Bedford and Bermuda. Wow!
Some of our newbies had no barcode with them but we explained the rules at the end and they were very happy. They didn't bring their codes as they thought they needed a new one every week and too much trouble. Doh! #DFYB
No birthdays to celebrate and no milestones, which was highly unusual, but lots of people going to the Severn Bridge 10K and Half tomorrow so we wished them well.
We got underway and this week 87 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 11 were first timers and 15 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 9 different clubs took part.
The lighter field offered Chloe Wheeler the freedom to record a pb and also a new category record in the SW18-19 age group with a time of 19:15 as she crossed the line as first finisher. Second lady home was Amanda Cullen, SW25-29, whose time of 23:16 was also a pb. 3rd lady home was Sue Shergold, VW50-54 in a time of 24:02
First man across the line was James Hewlett, SM25-29 in 20.42, followed by Tim Riddington, VM45-49 in 21:05 closely followed by Walter Leach, VM55-59 in 21:10
On the age grade front the top performers were: Neil Halford, MV65-69 whose time of 21:58 gave an age grade of 78.53% which was also a pb. Chloe Wheeler age graded at 77.75% and Robert Parry, another VM65-69 graded 74.73% with his pb time of 23:05.
Nice to see regular runners Vicki Hewlett, Tony May and Marysia Furlong in amongst te pb crowd today today. A good day for records!
I had a pleasant chat with ED David Price and it's obvious that this is a warm, friendly and welcoming event, typical of "The Forest" and I thank you all for the welcome. Hats off to Stuart Lodge, volunteering whilst recovering from a nasty fall not so long ago but still determined to be part of parkrun. Great effort and thank you Stuart.
If you can spare some time to get involved then please contact the team. There are even roles where you can volunteer as well as run so please don't be shy. All are welcome.
Today's event was made possible by 16 volunteers to whom we extend our and your thanks: Logan ARENDELL, David ARENDELL, Gary BURLEY, Mark CHANNER, Sandra HAWKINS, Anne KIRK, Stuart LODGE, Andrew LONG, Martina MITCHARD, Seth PETERS, David PRICE, Brian PRICE, Victoria SIMS, Graham TAYLOR, Mark WILLIAMSON and Chloe WHEELER
I look forward to popping in again soon.
