How far is Lydney parkrun

So how far is the Lydney parkrun really? Many have asked the question. Every week my Garmin says about 4.8k as do many others. Am I being cheated? Is it really a pb? We have measured numerous times using a small wheel, but today I decided to take my bike and measure the distance to and from the start of the lap (brick bridge) and the length of the lap and back.

The results are in...

Start to bridge 0.23k
Each lap 1.53
1.53
1.53
Bridge to finish 0.25
====
Total 5.07!!!

Anyone for a re-measure?

Chris

#20 – 14th May 2016

Lydney parkrun
Event number 20
14th May 2016

Another glorious start to a Saturday morning and who knew that there were such cute bears in the Lydney woods! I know parkrun is a run and not a race but seeing Scott Campbell storm over the finish line and smash the course record was pretty spectacular and I think it set the awesome feeling for the rest of the finish area, with the PB hooter getting plenty of presses with 35 PBs. Well done everyone. Continue reading

#12 – 19th March 2016

Lydney parkrun
Event number 12
19th March 2016

Great start again for a Sat morning. We were very privileged this morning to have 2 Dave's volunteering - David Price Lydney event director and Dave Lucas who bought parkrun to the Forest of Dean. We are very grateful to them both for all the hard work they have put into Lydney parkrun to make it possible and was great to see them both together at Lydney parkrun for the first time.

Thanks to everyone for being patient with the slightly delayed start to make sure everyone who wanted to run arrived due to the different car parking arrangements because of the fair this week.

It has to be said that it felt this week to be the smoothest Lydney parkrun so far. We have to thank Claire Morgan and Walter Leach mainly for this as they turn up week in week out to do set up. No doubt the benefit and experience of run director Dave Lucas also helped. After the run Dave said "it was a very relaxed and pleasant atmosphere this morning". He was also delighted to hear from Chris Rees that it was because we copied what he set up at the Forest. I am sure we will pinch Dave to be run director again soon.

On to the run now and a massive congratulations has to go to Victoria Baker who was first overall with a new PB which means a new female course record. Fantastic achievement. Second back was first timer to Lydney Julian Boon followed by another first timer Mark Bell.

Congratulations this week go to the juniors Kieran Jones for his 50th parkrun and Cory Sherwin on his 10th. It is fantastic to see juniors reaching these milestones and they are both running well.

Welcome to all tourists and 1st timers to Lydney parkrun, especially my brother on his 1st ever parkrun surrounded by supporting family crew (the perks of writing the run report!!).

There were a number of PBs this week. The biggest shout out must go to David Price who was able to run today and achieved a new PB. Well done to everyone that had a PB. There are too many to mention you all sorry so I have randomly selected a few PB stars - Cherry Fowler, Emma Bartlett, Naomi Berry, Helen Sherwin, Tess Tremlett, Joshua Nash, Nicola Snook, Julie Farr and Karen Devine.

We are very grateful to all the volunteers who made today possible - Dave Lucas, Tracey Hayes, Anne Kirk, Walter Leach, Pip Lockhart, Simon Lockhart, Daniel Millin, Claire Morgan, David Price, Mary Stubbs, Brian Price, Debbie White, Andrew Lavender, Finley Lavender and Claire Lavender.

Reminder that next week is Easter parkrun so we will be holding an Easter bonnet competition.
