A huge thank you to everyone who came along to the inaugural parkrun event on Saturday morning at Newbiggin-by-the-Sea. It was a fabulous sight to see 203 parkrunners grace the Promenade in near perfect conditions. Amongst the participants we welcomed folks from as far afield as Bedford, Glasgow, Giffnock, Greater London and Warrington.
Well done to everyone who participated. Several folks attained parkrun milestones at the event. Well done Kimberley Robinson on achieving 10 junior parkruns. Pete Hawthorne earned his 50th parkrun t-shirt and Kerry Swindon of North Shields Poly earned her 100th. Also well done to Peter Samuelson of Spectrum Runners for making Newbiggin-by-the-Sea your 373rd parkrun! First to cross the finish line at the event was Kurt Heron of Ashington Hirst Running Club in a time of 16:29 and first female was Becky Coleman in a time of 22:38.

It was great to see the event get off to a good start. A big thanks to everyone involved in making the event happen including: Newbiggin Partnership, Newbiggin Town Team, the Town Council, the County Council, the Amenities Team, the RNLI, the good people of Newbiggin, Ashington Hirst Running club, the parkrun Ambassador for the North East and everyone else who contributed in getting the event up and running.
A special mention to Dennis Earl (Newbiggin Town Clerk). He's had his ear bent nearly every Wednesday for the past 10 months and came up with some fantastic ideas for the event; thank you Dennis. Also thanks goes to a couple of local men, William Hedley & Ray Snell, who were up at 7am on Saturday morning setting out the course. Your contributions are much appreciated.
We hope you all enjoyed our inaugural event and hope to welcome you again soon
