Run Report #1, Inaugural Event, 14/10/2017

A huge thank you to everyone who came along to the inaugural parkrun event on Saturday morning at Newbiggin-by-the-Sea. It was a fabulous sight to see 203 parkrunners grace the Promenade in near perfect conditions. Amongst the participants we welcomed folks from as far afield as Bedford, Glasgow, Giffnock, Greater London and Warrington.

Well done to everyone who participated. Several folks attained parkrun milestones at the event. Well done Kimberley Robinson on achieving 10 junior parkruns. Pete Hawthorne earned his 50th parkrun t-shirt and Kerry Swindon of North Shields Poly earned her 100th. Also well done to Peter Samuelson of Spectrum Runners for making Newbiggin-by-the-Sea your 373rd parkrun! First to cross the finish line at the event was Kurt Heron of Ashington Hirst Running Club in a time of 16:29 and first female was Becky Coleman in a time of 22:38.

It was great to see the event get off to a good start. A big thanks to everyone involved in making the event happen including: Newbiggin Partnership, Newbiggin Town Team, the Town Council, the County Council, the Amenities Team, the RNLI, the good people of Newbiggin, Ashington Hirst Running club, the parkrun Ambassador for the North East and everyone else who contributed in getting the event up and running.

A special mention to Dennis Earl (Newbiggin Town Clerk). He's had his ear bent nearly every Wednesday for the past 10 months and came up with some fantastic ideas for the event; thank you Dennis. Also thanks goes to a couple of local men, William Hedley & Ray Snell, who were up at 7am on Saturday morning setting out the course. Your contributions are much appreciated.

We hope you all enjoyed our inaugural event and hope to welcome you again soon
Many thanks

Welcome to Newbiggin-by-the-Sea parkrun

Wow.  Nearly there!!  We're really looking forward to welcoming you to our inaugural event here on the Promenade at Newbiggin-by-the-Sea this coming Saturday.  Firstly, a few things before the day:

Thank You

A lot of hard work goes on behind the scenes when establishing a parkrun.  We are really grateful to Newbiggin Partnership, Newbiggin Town Team and the Town Council for raising the funds to get the event up and running.  We'd also like to thank the County Council, the Amenities Team, the RNLI and parkrun itself, particularly the North East Ambassador, for all their support in establishing a suitable course.

Volunteers

The success of any parkrun relies on it's core volunteer team.  We have had a wonderful response for volunteers from the local community via the "What's On in Newbiggin" facebook page; many thanks, it's much appreciated.  We also had a fantastic response from the local running community in the area and would like to thank Ashington Hirst Running Club for their efforts in helping us establish our core team.

Volunteers make parkrun happen and if you'd like to join our friendly team here at Newbiggin please register at: http://www.parkrun.org.uk/register/

You can then contact us via our:

Please let us know your name, barcode number and the roles you'd be happy to do and on which days you can volunteer.  Volunteering is fun and all our roles are straightforward.  You can find our future weekly roster at www.parkrun.org.uk/newbigginbythesea/futureroster/

New King Street car park, NE64 6BD
New Queen Street car park, NE64 6DF
Newbiggin Leisure Centre, NE64 6HG
Newbiggin Bank House Club NE64 6NU (for inaugural event only)
All car parking is free in Newbiggin.

Can we kindly ask that you stick to the official car parks when parking.

Finally..

The course is a very scenic 2 laps around the Bay, Promenade and Milburn Park areas of the town. The course is quite unique with long sections of flat tarmac interspersed with some short challenging sections of sand and grass as well as a short hill. Due to the terrain buggies are not suitable on this course; our sincerest apologies. To get the event off to a good start can we kindly ask that everyone keeps to the left on the promenade during the event and be mindful of other promenade / park users. We're hoping to be here for a while and would really appreciate it if folks can join us at our 2nd, 3rd and 4th event's etc to avoid having overwhelming numbers at the inaugural.

We very much look forward to seeing you on Saturday and beyond, and hope you enjoy our brand new parkrun.
Please join us at the end of the event for coffee and cake at Bertorelli's cafe.
Many thanks
The Newbiggin-by-the-Sea parkrun Team!
