Christmas and New Year 2017/18 at Newport parkrun

We like to be organised at Newport parkrun and as such have just declared our intentions to run Christmas and New Year parkruns.

Here is a summary of our festive arrangements - please note, should we not get enough volunteers then none of these events will be able to go ahead, so please put your name down now by emailing newporthelpers@parkrun.com

Saturday 16th December - Festive parkrunday! (9am)

Wear your most festive or festive outfits to run, jog, walk or volunteer and then join us in the Brewhouse after parkrun for our traditional mince pie and festive sing-along!

Saturday 23rd December (9am)

We will run, jog, walk and volunteer as normal on this date, just with a little extra festive cheer so close to Christmas!

Monday 25th December - Christmas Day parkrun (9am)

We will be parkrunning at Newport parkrun at 9am. We do need volunteers in order that this event can go ahead so please message us if you can help, and wear your best festive outfits!

If you're not in Newport on Christmas Day but still wish to parkrun, then take a look at the Christmas Compendium, as there might be an event up and running wherever you happen to be this Christmas.

Please note that on Christmas Day you will not be able to register more than one parkrun. Your opportunity to register two parkruns on one day is coming... keep reading...!

Saturday 30th December - normal parkrunday (9am)

Monday 1st January - New Year's parkrunday! (10:30am)

We are planning an extra parkrunday at 10:30am on New Years Day. We do need volunteers to make this happen, so if you do fancy lending a hand in the hi-vis then please let us know as soon as possible!

The New Year's Day parkrun is at the later time to enable you to do the 'double' this means you could run at either Riverfront or Cardiff who both start at 9am.

As always, please drive responsibly and with care between each event location.

Please get in touch if you’d like to volunteer over the Christmas period. The sooner we fill the roster the more relaxed we can be...

parkrun in Newport

We can confirm that both Newport parkrun, Newport junior parkrun and Riverfront parkrun will go ahead this weekend as normal.

The incredible success of parkrun in the Newport area has lead to challenges accommodating the growing demand. It is for this reason we ask parkrunners to temporarily delay their first run at the new Riverfront event for a few weeks to allow the volunteer team to become established.

Meanwhile we have been working with National Trust at Tredegar House to ensure the route of Newport parkrun, which is showing signs of wear, can be sensitively and jointly managed.

The future is bright for parkrun in the area as Monmouthshire County Council and parkrun have agreed the location of a new event in Caldicot. People wishing to become involved with organising this new event can contact Laura James of Monmouthshire County Council LauraJames@monmouthshire.gov.uk

Eventually we hope that the three events, together with those at Cwmbran, Pontypool and Penallta will reinstate the balance between supply and demand.

Christmas and New Year at Newport parkrun

Saturday 17th December 2016: please join us for our annual festive sing-along with coffee and mince pies after this parkrun event. We'll be upstairs in the brewhouse from 10am (ish) on this day and would love for you to join us!

Saturday 24th December 2016: Christmas Eve is a usual parkrunday, and we're having a special festive themed event!

Sunday 25th December 2016: We will be parkrunning at Newport at 9am. We do need volunteers in order that this event can go ahead so please message us if you can help this morning, and wear your best festive outfits!

If you're not in Newport on Christmas Day but still wish to parkrun, then take a look at the Christmas Compendium, as there might be an event up and running wherever you happen to be this Christmas.

Saturday 31st December 2016: parkrunday as usual.

Sunday 1st December 2017: New Years parkrunday!
We are planning an extra parkrunday at 10:30am on New Years Day. We do need volunteers to make this happen, so if you do fancy lending a hand in the hi-vis then please let us know as soon as possible!

New Years Day is the only day in parkrunworld where you can record two runs on the same day. As an event team, we do not elicit/encourage people to go out of their way to record extra runs. If you do plan on completing a double, please take care especially when travelling between events. There is no rush, you can always start late and catch up with the tailrunners. We do hope you can join us After Cardiff's NYD parkrun at 9. if you're elsewhere in the country you can find a festive run near you by checking out the Christmas Compendium

Run report – 20/8/16: event number 285

Last Saturday saw 31 volunteers and 343 runners, walkers and joggers take on a very blustery Newport parkrun. Congratulations to the 27 first timers who braved the not so summery August weather to take their first parkrun steps!

Congratulations to our milestone achievers this week including Mollie Sheppard who joins the junior 10 club, Paul Williams who is the most recent member of the 50 club and last but not least, Lewis McLoughlin and Neale MacCarthaigh who have run a fantastic 100 parkruns each! Well done all!

Thank you to all our volunteers, those who made the event run so smoothly and those who assisted with the First Steps beginners running groups as tail runners and leaders. Your assistance in whatever form is very much appreciated! The summer months are the hardest to fill with volunteers and although we're very grateful to those who have put their name forward to help in the last few weeks, there are a still a number of weeks we need to fill. Please take a look at the future roster and let us know when you can help out, and which role you would like to fill: http://www.parkrun.org.uk/newport/futureroster/

Please email us on newporthelpers@parkrun.com if you can be a hi-viz hero and help us put on Newport parkrun in the coming weeks.

Following an inspiring two weeks of sport, next Saturday we're joining with parkrun events all across the UK to help stage the UK's largest sports day as part of Join In's I AM TEAM GB! We are not only hoping to encourage people to come along and try parkrun out, but to have a bit of fun dressing up in red, white or blue to celebrate our latest sporting heroes. https://www.joininuk.org/iatgb-events/i-am-team-gb-newport-parkrun/

If you know anyone looking to start running then don't forget to let them know about our First Steps beginners running programme which can be started any week and worked through in their own time.

Run report – 23/7/16 – the apricot event!

It was a very warm and muggy morning at Newport parkrun yesterday, but that seemed to encourage our parkrunners out and onto the course on a Saturday that we felt sure would see a low turnout. Most weeks a number of our volunteers will hazard a guess at the beginning of the run as to total numbers attending. One of our RDs this week, Brad, was absolutely certain we'd be pushing 400 and was proved pretty much correct when 397 of you crossed the finish line!

This week we had 24 volunteers who high-fived and cheered all 397 of you across the line and through the finish funnel. Of our 397 parkrunners/joggers/walkers this week, 31 of you were first timers and 47 recorded personal bests.

We had a number of milestone achievers this week with Ioan Maher and Lorna Saffer reaching the junior 10 milestone club. Congratulations both, we hope to see you in your new white 10 parkrun tshirts soon!  Also reaching a milestone this week were Matthew Pollard, Tudor Evans and Paul McCarthy who have joined the 50 milestone club - well done all, there will be a red parkrun tshirt on its way to you soon no doubt!

Next Saturday we start our latest beginners running programme, more details on this will be published this week. Watch this space!

We need a number of volunteers to come forward in order to be able to put on Newport parkrun successfully in the next couple of weeks - summer is always a difficult time to fill the roster so if you can help at all, please let us know. The future roster is here so take a look and drop us a line (newporthelpers@parkrun.com) for a preferred or brand new role and the date you can help: http://www.parkrun.org.uk/newport/futureroster/

parkrunners across the country were encouraged to attend an event today in an apricot parkrun top and those at Newport parkrun didn't fail to show off their parkrun best today with a splash of colour. If you'd like to purchase an apricot vest, short sleeve or long sleeve top (which you can personalise with the name of your home run) then you can do so here: https://tribesports.com/pages/parkrun-performance-collection. All the profit from the sale of the apricot tops contributes directly to ensure the sustainability and success of parkrun.

We are very grateful to the volunteers who made this event happen: Robert BLUNDELL, Gareth CHARLES, Dave COOK, John DALLY, Peta DANIELS, Ruby DAVIES, Carl DIFFORD, Brad GOODFELLOW, Trudy HURFORD, Elaine LEVERSON, Richard LEWIS, Emma LYNCH, Dexter LYNCH, Howard Charles MASON, Elizabeth MOUNFIELD, Richard OWEN, Jan OWEN, Andrew PARK, Sam REES, Matthew REES, Jack ROWLAND, Morgan STEPHENSON, Rhys STEPHENSON and Emma WOOKEY
