volunteer awards – Karen Barnard

Congratulations to Karen Barnard from Frimley Lodge parkrun for being named 'Senior Volunteer of the Year' at the 2016 Hampshire and Isle of Wight Sports Awards.

Karen has been the regular Volunteer Coordinator at Frimley Lodge parkrun for the past four-and-a-half years, is part of the event’s core team, and also helped with the training of the new parkrun teams at Alice Holt and Rushmoor.

The Award covers three strands of her volunteering: for parkrun, for volunteering at local (and not so local) sports events, and for her work as Join In Hampshire’s Local Leader Coordinator, giving more than 800 hours of her time to the Coordinator role in 2015.

The Awards Ceremony took place at Southampton Football Club and was hosted by Hampshire County Council and Sport Hampshire. The event rewards commitment, performance and excellence across all sports, in coaching, volunteering, participation and performance.
