Normanby hall parkrun event #65 run report

Normanby Hall parkrun  Event number 65  2nd February 2019

This weeks report is about Cold fingers, Lincolnshire tourists, a special milestones, age grading and a visit from Santa’s four legged helpers.....

Some would say the weather wasn’t conducive with outdoor activities today, others would relish in it and have fun in the snow that came to Normanby hall today......

C6BB6477-58A8-4F53-86A0-46B3028196E8

There were 227 excited parkrunners today enjoying the beautiful picturesque surroundings of Normanby hall country park.  More specifically the 20 hardy volunteers who endured the cold in their fingers making timekeeping, token giving and barcode scanning an unenviable task.  Well done to the following brave souls.....

Barry NICOL • Rob MARSHALL • Jason FRARY • Naomi GRIERSON • Lydia WALTON • Patricia WEBSTER • Andy PONTIN • Mags CLARKE • Isla LONGCAKE • Rory LONGCAKE • Debbie BROWN • Trinity HERBERTS • Chris CARR • Janet LONGCAKE • Jackie MCMAHON • John MCMAHON • Roman HERBERTS • Leah WOODS • Jane LAKING • Shaun LAKING

IMG_4186

Despite the weather, we still attracted 32 first timers today, with a special mention to friends who travelled up from Boston.  They were on a mission to complete all the Lincolnshire Parkrun’s, with Normanby hall being their final piece of the jigsaw.......

IMG_4187

Well done Boston tourists and we hope to welcome you again in the future.  On with your next challenge which we understand includes a parkrun starting with the letter ‘Z’!

A special milestone nearly went under the radar today.  He thought it might slip by unmentioned, but today our Event Director, Brian, achieved his 50th parkrun.  Only 50?, some may say.  He could have achieved many more parkrun finishes but since the start of Scunthorpe parkrun at Central Park, Brian has put his main efforts into volunteering and ensuring that these events go ahead every week.  Well done Brian on your achievement and getting that elusive red t-shirt.  Here he is in action today, braving the elements....

20190202_091215_resized

Another special milestone came today when Sam Walkeden also completed his 50th parkrun and ran with his son Jake, completing his very 1st parkrun at Normanby hall.  Stamped in history with a beautiful photograph.....

IMG_4211

Other milestones today that did slip under the radar this morning we’re those of Chris Farmery completing his 50th and Lynn Johnson who achieved her

Let’s declare the results a little bit differently this week!  Age Gradings are all about putting everyone on a level playing field.  If you want to understand a little more about what your AG% means, then have a read here and then compare your result with others again to see how good you really are... https://support.parkrun.com/hc/en-us/articles/200565263-What-is-age-grading-

So, a special mention to this weeks age grading top 3 parkrunners...

Janice Holmes 77.31%, Shaun Manoury 75.36% and Sue Simpkin 74.01%.  Well done to you all on fabulous stats!

Bringing back to normal, the first three finishers today have clocked up 612 Parkrun’s between them:  Andrew Weaver 228 and his 20th top of the podium, Rodney Campbell 227 and Nick Stonehewer 157.  Well done chaps!

First time home for the ladies today was Beth Taylor with her 3rd top of the podium, Normanby regular junior Emily Richardson and Elizabeth Tindall.

Finally, though we all thought Christmas was over, I had to give Santa a mention, or more to the point a mention for his four legged friends who were back from their summer vacation in January following a busy December.  We were blessed today to have them watching and running with us.  I had it described to me that they sounded like a roller coaster thundering by when they were running at threshold!  Thanks to Debbie for the photo of them watching and thinking about joining in.....

20190202_085132_resized

That’s all folks, hope you enjoyed running in the glorious conditions today. Don’t forget, as the results were slightly delayed this week by parkrun server problems, for your patience we’ve agreed a free run for everyone next week.  Tell your friends and see you all next Saturday when normal service run reporting will resume from Sue.

Rob

Normanby Hall parkrun event #64 26 January 2019

As January mornings go, what a pleasant weather one today's proved to be. No grumbling from the volunteers suffering cold hands or wet feet. What a delight. This early good fortune has gone from strength to strength due to the fact that incompetent Brian, (who if FB is anything to go by only seems to talk to ducks and deer), hasn't got to challenge his IT skills by transferring pictures into this report as the facility is currently unavailable to him.

Last minute lurgi took its toll on volunteers this week. A late in the week reshuffle of volunteers and a little persuasion of two arrivals this morning into the marshaling roles took place. In consequence an extra big thank you to:
Brian WEAVER • Barry NICOL • Andrew FERGUSON • Aaron LONGCAKE • Estelle OGG • Isla LONGCAKE • Rory LONGCAKE • Trinity HERBERTS • Gillian PAINE • Richard MUSGRAVE • Maggie ZERGI • John JARVIS • Lesley NICOL • Iam TULLY • James DAY • John MCMAHON • Anthony FLEET • Roman HERBERTS • Thomas MUSGRAVE • Martin KENT.

231 people had no sick note and consequently  ran, jogged and walked the course. 13 were first timers and 63 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 19 different clubs took part. Visitors from Slough and Doncaster announced their presence at the start of today's event although, on inspection of the results many visitors to the area dropped into the park for our event.

It was unfortunate that we had a microphone malfunction as Sam Blackburn celebrating his 15th birthday spoke to the starters and attempted to point out that, whilst grateful to his loving parents he was able to hammer his dad round the parkrun course with relative ease.      That being said he felt it correct to allow father to have the last word this week and allow him to come over the finish line in front - because - PR isn't a race after all.

16 February is Chase the Pacer day at Normanby if you have a favourite time that you could attempt with ease between 18 and 45 minutes and are willing to help some of your fellow parkrunners to achieve their ambition time please e mail our volunteer desk at normanbyhalloffice@parkrun.com stating the whole number of minutes you would like to pace at. On the day we will loan you a tabard with the time advertised on its back. You will get your reward from the pleasure you give to others.

See you next week

Enjoy your exercise
