A cold and windy start to the day met our runners but as always once you get running the cold relents, however the head-wind was wicked as we went between the lakes!

Good luck to all those taking part in the Manchester Marathon tomorrow, I will be there with my club supporting you at 38KM. Look out for Royton Road Runner resplendent in green (Or rain macs if the predicted rain gets us!)
We will be dishing out water, gels and jelly beans as well as motivation which you will need at that stage of the race (Remember we are seasoned marathon runners so know exactly how you will be feeling at 38K)

Oldham parkrunners I am aware doing the marathon are:
Simon Lake
Dave Peart
Anne-Marie Lord
Paul Craddock
Paul Cachelin-Stephens

Have a great day!

We have set the date for our 2nd Birthday celebrations as the 21st July so put that date in the diary please!
Our committee has great plans and treats in planning not least our world famous bacon butties at the end of the run!
If you would like to donate to our funds (As we have none!) then use the link to donate on the weekly parkrun email!

Taking no chances!

Oldham parkrun
Event number 86
21st April 2012

After the problems last week, we were taking no chances this week and had a back-up timer on hand. This was only possible because we had a full rota of volunteers! This isn’t always the case and we would like people to sign up to volunteer just 3 times a year. It’s easy – send an email to oldhamhelpers@parkrun.com and we’ll put you on the list. We won’t give you any job that you don’t want but we will encourage you to try some of the different roles. And if you are worried about the points competition – don’t be! Each of your 3 volunteer stints each year will be awarded the full 100 points (and the only other way to guarantee that is to finish first!)

This week’s role of honour:

Race Director: Sandra Fairbrother
Timekeeper: Mike Harpham
Back-up Timer/Number Checker: Jason Chapman
Registration: Alan Arthurs
Registration: Graham Arthurs
Numbers: Rachel Harpham
Marshal: Stephen Kelly
Marshal: Phil Beveridge
Marshal: Jessica Lily Caterer-Dust
Marshal: Andrew Rowles
Signs: Simon Lake

Upcoming events – make a note in your diary:

Oldham Community Run4Fun – 30th June 11am (you could do the parkrun and the fun run after!)

Oldham parkrun is 2 years old on 24th July – date of the anniversary run will be 21st July. There will be bacon butties and we hope you can stay after the run for the annual awards and some general good banter!

Online entries are now available for local races including the Dovestone Diamond Trail, Millbrook Monster and Tameside 10k. Please see Jason Chapman for more details.

If you would like to let us know of other local races, please speak with the Race Director.

And finally…to all the Oldham parkrunners (including myself) who will be running the Manchester Marathon on Sunday – we’ve done all the hard work and training, so have a brilliant day and try to come back injury free! If anyone is in the vicinity on Sunday (google Manchester Marathon 2012 for the route), give us a wave – we’ll appreciate the support!

Timer Error takes 2.5 hours to process the results

Results now with HQ to Process

Thank you all for your patience this morning due to a timer error we have had to do less than accurate results this week.

In essence we had no times for the first 20 or so runners, and thank you to Brian from Oldham and Royton Harriers for the loan of his watch so Sandy could shout times out.

Somewhere in the mix the shouted times did not work out quite right and using times from runners I established that around 36 seconds needed to be added to these "Shouted" times.

Thus your email from parkrun may look odd! If you have a time taken by yourself and would like to email me on oldhamoffice@parkrun.com I will do my best to update the results accordingly.

Please note I will do two updates:

Sunday Evening
Wednesday Evening - FINAL Submission

If you email me after Wednesday then you will not get an update!

The run report will be published Monday evening once the Sunday results has hopefully cleared up any major issues.

Once again thanks for your patience and apologies for the inconvenience

Event Director

PB frenzy, including Simon on his 50th run!

After last week’s hot weather, we were treated to very good running weather which assisted some folks to a great PB result ( See below). Jason was back this week as your run director and was proud to announce Simon’s 50th run (Simon sporting his one off 49 runs shirt) and Jess with her 10 club T.

So now Ray from Bushy parkrun will email Simon to confirm his home parkrun (So the shirt is sent to the right event director) and his preferred shirt size.

Ray sends shirts once a month so sometimes you may have to wait a bit for it to arrive. The shirts cannot be bought and are a great gift from Adidas, next week Bev hopes to join the 50 club, so will be our first run director to achieve this accolade!

A big thanks to all our volunteers this week! It was one of those Friday night worries when the roster looked a bit empty, but last minute volunteers saved the day.

Angie and Tony HART – putting signs out
Gaynor KEANE  - Marshal on the Fountain corner
Jason CHAPMAN   - Run Director and timer
Mark Stephen KELLY  - Numbers and hooter!
Nigel PENGELLY   - Registration
Simon Bruce LAKE   -  Collection signs
Stephen KELLY   - Marshaling the first corner
Teri-Louise CATERER -  Marshaling the woodland walk

If you ever get the chance to volunteer it is simple, email oldhamhelpers@parkrun.com and we will add you to the roster.

It was great to see Dave Peart cross the line in first this week, after a couple of potential wins in the past, victory at last with Adam Arthurs hot on his heels all the way round. Well done Dave!

Welcome and well done to our first timers at Oldham parkrun

There’s a strange rumour going around that Oldham is wet or cold or icy – well, we weren’t having any of that today! Factor 15 and sunglasses were the order of the day as British Summertime prepares to make an entrance!

Rachel Harpham on registration

Graham Hill handing out the finishing tokens

Nigel Pengelly on the first marshal point

Zoe Dancer on the Woodland Walk point

Mark Kelly for making sure all the kit arrived (and got taken home again!)

If you would like to offer your services as a volunteer, don’t be shy, drop us an email at oldhamHelpers@parkrun.com – and don’t worry, we all had a ‘first time’ volunteering and we all survived! Remember – no volunteers = no parkrun!

One final thing – if you are anywhere near Radclyffe School running track tomorrow around 11 am, pop in and support the people running for Sport Relief. In fact, why not google it and find out if there’s one near you and run/walk or just support.

Hope to see you next week – bring a friend or two as well – they’re always welcome!

Simon Lake
