Porthcawl parkrun birthday celebration plans

Saturday 2nd April is Porthcawl parkrun 3rd birthday !!! it's hard to believe its gone so quickly and we are now averaging nearly 200 runners every week. Due to race director Steve Brace taking a well earned rest after the World Half Marathon Championship and other commitments this week we will be having a birthday celebration ,with presentations to our annual points champions and a review of the year, after parkrun on Saturday 9th April in the Porthcawl Pavilion - there will be refreshments available at a small charge. This week Saturday 2nd April ,come along and celebrate with us by wearing your World Half Marathon tee-shirt or volunteer kit. Run the World at Porthcawl !
SAFETY NOTE : We have had an increase in the number of runners with buggies recently . This has caused some concern both from other runners and other pedestrians in the area. We welcome runners with buggies but would request they take extra care when overtaking other runners and show consideration to walkers, cyclists and dog-walkers on the paths in the interests of their own and other people safety. We want everybody to enjoy our parkrun whether they are running volunteering or spectating please help us to keep our event safe for everyone . Thank you

Birthday celebrations with love in the air and future plans

Valentines day and love was in the air along Porthcawl seafront , a fine dry sunny day with dry light wind welcomed the 191 runners preparing for the start of our 98th parkrun . All the runners and volunteers joined in wishing Happy birthday to Pauline Sheldrick , one of our regular runners who always tries her hardest and runs with a smile , she has volunteered on several occasions when she was q unable to run . This was a special birthday for Pauline and her family were here , either running or cheering her on , hope you had a great day Pauline . It was also Joanne Hegarty birthday and she ran with a large group of friends and family before a birthday breakfast celebration. These are the things that make parkrun so much fun for us all , runners and volunteers .
Matt Wells led the field home in a time of 17:11 , while Neath Harriers Lucy Harland was first female in 19:31 on her first visit to Porthcawl.
We have our 100th run in 2 weeks time on 28th Feb and are hoping our top 10 attendees and volunteers over the last 2 years will be at the start for a special celebration photo shoot . Since it's the day before St David's Day ,it will be Welsh themed run or run in Red for Wales .
As usual many thanks to all our willing volunteers who make our regular tuns possible and all the runners who make it all worthwhile. Keep running and enjoy yourselves , come back soon
