Our run has gone from strength to strength over the last year and I hope lots of you will be able to join us in a celebration of this success.

It was rather damp under foot this morning but the rain managed to hold off. We had a good turnout of 130 runners, 35 of which were first timers. Well done to the 41 runners who achieved PB’s! Thank you to all the volunteers who helped put the run on today.

It was a very close finish for the first 3 runners, who were only a second apart. In his first appearance, Lee Smith won in a time of 18:34. Alistair Palmer took second by 1 second recording 18:35 and Andrew Stay placed third in a time of 18:35.

In the points competition Ian Giggs has a lead of 192 points over second placed Christopher T Kelly. In the ladies competition, the gap between Lucy Perrin and Sheena Keates continues to narrow with only 38 points between them.

Just a reminder that our first anniversary is coming up on the 11th September. More details to follow.

Peppard 10km

The Peppard 10km is taking place on Sunday, September 5th.

This is a local charity event organised by Feed the Children.

As I understand it this is a fairly low key event that is run mostly off-road.

Entries are £10 in advance. All the details can be found here.

There is also a 7km walk that takes place at the same time for those who think that the step up from 5 to 10km is too far.

I hope we'll see a few parkrunners taking part.

Run report - 7 August 2010

by Lucy Perrin

A good turnout for our first run of August and 45th parkrun at Reading.....it was great to see so many new people running, there were 48 first timers in total. I would love to know where you are all coming from! Hope you all enjoyed it and come again soon. Thanks to all today’s volunteers, we couldn’t put the run on without you!

Please can all runners make sure they only cross the finish line ONCE and collect a finish token as you pass through the funnel. If you have finished and are running in with someone else, please keep well away from the finish area to make it easier for the volunteers to see who has and hasn’t finished. Thank you.

In his first appearance, Zac Randall (JM15-19) won in a time of 16:50. Paul Roberson representing Reading Roadrunners took second by 54 seconds recording 17:44. Richard John Allen placed third in a time of 18:41.

In her 37th appearance, Sheena Keates won the ladies race in a time of 20:09.  Hayley Fourie, representing Bracknell Forest Runners, was second lady recording 20:19 in the process. Gemma Fraser placed third in a time of 21:52.

In today's Age Graded competition, Zac Randall recorded a performance of 80.20%. We had 30 runners record PBs today!

In the points competition Ian Giggs has a lead of 192 points over second placed Christopher T Kelly. Lucy Perrin leads Sheena Keates by 46 in the ladies competition.

A number of parkrunners are running the Halloween 5 Nite Run on the 31st October at Thames Valley Park. It should be fun, particularly if lots of parkrunners turn up. It fills up quickly so don’t delay if interested. Here’s the link to their website: www.halloween5niterun.co.uk/#

A number of our regular volunteers are on holiday in August leaving us very short of help. If you can help out please get in touchat: readingHelpers@parkrun.com

Hope to see you next week!
