Go on, cheer yourself up, look forward to the weekend!

Fed up of this soggy and chilly start to the week? Well maybe now is a good time to think about something positive to lift your spirits.

Plan next Saturday around 9am parkrun for example! Our lovely friends at The Riverfront café offer a special post parkrun breakfast and other treats. You can chat with others from our welcoming parkrun family and then check out events and activities offered at The Riverfront.

A brilliant start to the weekend and certainly something to look forward to!

Inaugural event a success!

Well, last week's inaugural parkrun was a big success!

We had a fantastic turnout of 143 people that took part last Saturday. The first placed runner came over the line in an impressive 16 min 39 seconds, so massive congratulations there.

Equal congratulations go to  one of our participants who was running for the first time in many years; keeping Allyson our tail runner company for 47 minutes and 41 seconds. The sense of achievement was fabulous and it proves what we say - you DO NOT have to be a super fast runner to #loveparkrun!

We look forward to welcoming you if you are joining us this week. Please remember;

* Don't Forget Your Barcode

* Plan ahead and arrive early......trying to park up at the last minute may well mean you miss the start

* We love your poochy friends but sadly NO DOGS are allowed to accompany runners on this parkrun course

Just turn up with your barcode; run fast, run slow, run and walk, walk and run, join in......the choice is yours!

Inaugural run….take 2!

This week, our volunteer team are again looking forward to welcoming you to our inaugural run following its cancellation last week for safety reasons.

We hope that the weather will be kinder to us, but are not taking that for granted! We’ll monitor the situation and assess the course for ice on Saturday morning.

Beware of MAJOR delays getting to the start. In particular, avoid Friars Walk car park which is likely to be no go after 8:30 with long queues and SIGNIFICANT traffic congestion. Alternatives are Kingsway NP20 1DT, Queensway NP20 4AX, Clarence Place NP19 7AB. Even better please come next week or the week after!

If you are coming GET HERE EARLY!

Saturday 14th January – Inaugural event sadly cancelled

We were all extremely disappointed to cancel our inaugural event this morning and would like to extend a big thank you to our brilliant volunteers and (potential) runners, some of whom travelled a considerable distance across the country to join us.

On first appearance the areas of the course that are most vulnerable to icy conditions were in an acceptable condition, with treatment of salt and grit that we applied. However, the course is a straight out and back and as such we have 2.5k of pathway to consider. Despite the strong sunlight thawing out some stretches, others simply wouldn’t have been safe to run or indeed walk on.

We are grateful to Councillor Debbie Wilcox, John Griffiths AM and Jessica Morden MP who were on hand to lend their support along with staff at Newport Live who did their very best to help us. We are also grateful to you all for your understanding.

It must be said that despite our disappointment the positive parkrun ethos came shining through and we are all set and raring to go next week!

Considering the inclement weather we will be monitoring the situation and assess the course for ice early tomorrow morning. Unfortunately there is risk of cancellation at short notice. Please check this facebook page for updates.

If we are able to go ahead, beware of major delays getting to the start.
