New Year’s Day parkrun 2019

Let’s make this your first New Years resolution of 2019

Join us at Riverfront parkrun for your first 5k of the year. Walk/jog/run with us and blow off those New Year’s Eve cobwebs. If you’re feeling ambitious why not join another local parkrun at 9am and then do the double with us at 10:30?

This is your one and only opportunity to get 2 published park runs on the same day in the calendar year.

If you aren’t able to join the 5k crowd why not join us as a hi viz hero and volunteer with us? Contact us via our Facebook page or by email at Riverfronthelpers@parkrun.com

Christmas Day parkrun

Start off your Christmas Day the right way and join us all at Riverfront parkrun. Another excuse to dress up in your Christmas outfit, see all your friends and earn those yummy roasties and Christmas choccies!

Not running but still want some Christmas Day festivities? Come and volunteer for us and jingle all the way!

Riverfront’s first anniversary

352 people turned out to celebrate our first anniversary and what a fantastic atmosphere they all created for our first special milestone, all supported by 31 volunteers. Our co-event director who is renowned for her cake baking skills (Teej)  made a wonderful cake which everyone enjoyed in the theatre cafe post parkrun.

We’d like to thank our core volunteers for supporting us over the last 12 months. We couldn’t bring this amazing event to our runners without your dedication each week. We would also like to thank the theatre staff team for opening their doors early every Saturday morning so our runners can access all the facilities. The staff in the cafe have become a great part of this wonderful community. It is fair to say, our parkrun has enhanced the community, we’ve all made new friends and acquaintances and we look forward to welcoming you all in the forthcoming year.

With best wishes to you all! Lisa & Teej

Riverfront parkrun goes the extra mile!

Did you know that approximately 30,000 Out of Hospital Cardiac Arrests occur every year in the UK?
Without immediate treatment, 90-95% of Sudden Cardiac Arrest victims will die
If a defibrillator is used and effective CPR is performed within 3-5 minutes of cardiac arrest, survival chances increase from 6% to 74%. Thats an amazing difference!
We wanted to share with you that 3 of the Riverfront regular volunteers have attended CPR and defibrillator training to support the safety of park runners. We hope that we will never need to use it however, the stats provided by the British Heart Foundation are astonishing in that 12 people under the age of 35 yrs old die every week in the UK and 270 children die in the UK every year after suffering a Sudden Cardiac Arrest at school. We are currently fundraising to be able to purchase our own equipment so it is immediately available in the event of a cardiac arrest but in the meantime we have access to a defibrillator at the Riverfront Theatre and Newport Leisure centre. We could respond much quicker though if we had one of our own. You can donate here to help us and every little helps
