Event 229 5 September

Back to School Saturday The first Saturday in September is when many of us will be thinking about the new school year whether you are a student, parent or generally observing how busy the roads will be. Some of us will be a little out of practice after holidays and maternity leave, and others will be starting for the first time. This week we had 16 new parkrunners out of a total of 259 athletes.  There were surprisingly few ‘unknowns’ this week so most off us  remembered out barcodes – the equivalent of having your name tapes sewn into your sports kit. 36 runners gave their best ever effort this week achieving a personal best. Amongst them was; Martin Clark knocking that vital second to cross the line at 20:58 Samuel Preston, one of our juniors shaving over a minute from his previous best with 27:44 Amanda Dearing complete her 10th run with 31:34. There were some familiar faces in the men’s placings: 1              Christopher RUSSELL      17:51 2              Mick LOFTUS      18:59 3              Huw LIPPIATT    19:04 Here are the women’s placings; 1              Sarah GRAHAM20:51 2              Sheryl PUNTER  21:45 3              Carol GATEHOUSE           22:33   Congratulations to Jayne Bulpitt who received the long service award on completing her 50th run and she will soon be wearing the new colours of the red T shirt! Did you know that 11 runners achieved an age grading over 70% which is a magnificent result. The highest went to Mick Loftus 76.47% The run wouldn’t have taken place if it weren’t for our fabulous volunteers, so many many thanks to them. After next week’s run there will be a committee meeting in the Lakeside café, so if you are interested in what goes on behind the scenes to come along! Happy Running!
