Firstly a thanks to the parkrun weather fairy; she may not have had the best of weeks (or months) but she kept the rain away all morning, and recently that's about as good as we can hope for.
During the run briefing Mick Turner asked if there were any milestones, but was met by silence, although a huge round of applause was given to Stephen Hewitt on his 400th run (335 at Roundshaw). I feel like a few runners either missed the briefing or didn't want to raise their hands though, as I spy some milestones in the results; belated congrats to Chris Leonard (100), Christopher Ironside (50), and Jared Webb Plater (J10). There were also 4 first timers - welcome to the fun Maddox and Andrew Clarke, Robert Rice and Victor Mosser, I'm sure you'll be back.
Tourists came too, some from Birmingham (sorry I didn't catch your names – Ed ? Helen Pickering), and Darren and Amanda Francis from Devon (coincidently on speaking to them it transpires I ran with them on New Year’s day at their home run of Torbay Velopark).
Well done Darren for leading the field home in under 20 minutes, great running in those conditions. Roundshaw regular Mark Constantinou took the age-grade honours with 76.87% in another excellent run.
Lastly (definitely not least) thanks to all the volunteers on the day - John CAZABON, Antony CONSTANTINOU, George ENGLISH, Tony GALLAGHER, Anne HARRIS, Michael John Richard HIGGINS, Jenny MAC DONNELL, Daran MITCHELL, Elaine REID, Toby SHEARLOCK, Ziggy SPENCE, Florence TINDLEY, Mick TURNER.
This was my 3rd visit to Roundshaw but as it was my son's first visit I asked him for his opinions and highlights. His favourite moment? The view of the shard from the top of the hill, and the cakes and Easter eggs at the end. Hard to argue with that; another great morning, Happy Easter everyone, see you next time.
