By Sue Gray + some ‘bonus’ Tim
Well it’s an unusual Saturday morning in the Gray household which sees me heading out to parkrun on my own! Tim is unfortunately suffering with a chest infection, but he made sure I was up and out in good time (aided by a cup of tea!) to ensure there was some family presence there this morning.
And what a beautiful morning it was! After months of shivering at the start we were a more relaxed bunch in the spring sunshine. Someone’s barcode was returned before we set off which hopefully avoided any later disappointment. It was great to acknowledge some visitors, the furthest two from Osterley in North London; Rahul and Raghav Menon, some people brand new to parkrun (Maria MOROZOVA, Ben DRANE and Shaun MOORS),. Also some milestones : Sean QUIRKE running his 50th, Danny MORRELL running his 100th and Michael LARKIN running his 250th; as Tony said we covered most of the bases today. Well done to everyone! (and thanks for the snacks).
And it was a good run for many, with 11 PB’s, helped by the firmer ground I’m sure (in fact I had to make quite an effort to get my trainers as muddy as I did).
Not a great day for everyone though. A big thank you from the run team for all who stopped with the collapsed runner; we are told he went away ok and hopefully will be with us again (less eventfully) soon.
It is certainly marathon season at the moment, with Brighton tomorrow (at least 2 volunteers and a runner today who completed it) and London next week; good luck to everyone taking part (some of whom were volunteering today)… and I wonder how many marathon runners would cite parkrun in having played a part in their journey… a good number I’m sure.
As for me; I’m quite happy with a (slow) 5k… a good start to the day… now off to the wedding of one of our Chiltern Church runners (Sam Baker) to the lovely Charlotte.
