Springwatch – where did it go?!

By Nicholas Tanner

After last week’s mini heatwave and the hottest London Marathon ever, you could have been forgiven for thinking that spring had finally arrived. However, the return of Chris Packham and Michaela Strachan to our screens may have to be delayed as we seem to have gone back to wet and wintry weather conditions. The course was damp and slightly slippery, but the going was good for the 124 runners, joggers and walkers.

There were special anniversaries this week for Ian COTTON and Bernadette GOLDRICK.

Ian has now completed 100 parkruns (87 at Roundshaw) as well as 49 junior parkruns while Bernadette reached her 50 (47 at Roundshaw). Congratulations to both of you!

Meanwhile, just starting out was Joshua DE SILVA who ran his first ever parkrun. We hope you will be back for many more.

We welcomed a couple of first-time visitors to Roundshaw – Brittany SAVILLE (Worthing) had the best age-grade score of the day with 75.00% and Jeff THWAITES (Lloyd).

25 fantastic PB’s were set – well done to all of you. A special mention goes to Claire MITCHELL who knocked an amazing 53 seconds off her best and Michael OGUNNAIKE who bettered the mark he set nearly 2 years ago.

Many thanks to all the volunteers listed below. We are very grateful for your help and support. It was especially nice to have some marshals at points on the course where we are not used to seeing them and the extra encouragement was greatly appreciated.

In case you missed it, parkrun HQ published the 2017 Run Report last week. It is filled with interesting stats and inspiring stories. We really are lucky to be part of a movement that has such a positive impact on all of our lives. You can catch up by clicking on this link:
