Turner round of conditions

The heavy downpours of Friday bought much more comfortable conditions to Roundshaw Downs this Saturday. Several weeks of dry and very hot weather had seen the Downs take on a Mediterranean look, but just a few hours of rain brought a green tinge and the Downs looked beautiful. Sandwiched between two rainy days we were lucky to be running in sunshine with a welcoming breeze, and a little softer underfoot than we have experienced in recent weeks.

133 runners completed the course, with 11 first-timers including 3 runners (John Turner, David Wagg and Gilbert Malin) completely new to parkrun. After bringing Roundshaw Down to us 9 years ago, Mick Turner has finally introduced his brother John (admittedly he does live a long way from his nearest parkrun). Tourists joined us from other London boroughs and the Home Counties. Welcome all, we hope to see you return soon.

Well done to Scott Worsfold on completing his 50th parkrun, and to David Smith for an unofficial 200 milestone.

The first 3 positions this week were closely fought, with Stephen Pond and Jonathan Jones both coming in at 19:18, and James Higgins at 19:24. I was nowhere near to witness it, but I imagine it was an exciting finish and a challenge for the time-keeper. But, of course, parkrun is not a race and it was good to see so many personal achievements this week, with 14% of the field gaining a PB, showing that perseverance during difficult conditions (hot!) does pay off.

PB’s this week:

Grace CHARLEY
Francisco PEDRO

Hannah BRILL-DULLEY

Thank you to this week’s volunteers. It’s lovely to receive encouragement whilst running round.
