Sweatshop Monthly Prize winner - July

We are pleased to announce that this month's Sweatshop Monthly Prize winner is Mohamed Sharief

Congratulations to Mohamed who ran all 4 times in the month with 3 PBs improving by 4 minutes 43 seconds.

We'd like to thank Hugh Brasher of Sweatshop for his generosity and to congratulate Mohamed on his achievement. His prize is a new pair of running shoes fitted at the local Sweatshop.

The winner is chosen by the event director or members of the committee designated by him. The successful candidates are often chosen for their perseverance, number of PBs in one month, total number of runs and improvement overall.

Race Report No. 33

Grey clouds over Platt fields couldn't put off the spirit of the Parkrunners, with 66 runners turning out for our 33rd event. With the rain staying away the run got under way at the Lakeside centre with 15 runners taking part at South Manchester for the first time. The cooler conditions and flat terrain of Platt fields were ideal for setting a PB and 10 runners took advantage of this to set a new PB, congratulations to you all.

Robert White, of Buxton and District AC, took first place with  a time of 18:01, with Jackie Cordingley of Sale Harriers being the first female across the finish line in 22:03.

Congratulations to all 66 runners for taking part, we hope you enjoyed your run and look forward to welcoming you back to South Manchester next Saturday.

A big thank-you to all our volunteers for your support and for all the encouragement you give to the runners. If you would like to support the event by volunteering you can contact Yue Wang, the volunteer coordinator, via the VOLUNTEER tab above.

Happy running and see you all Lakeside next week.

Best wishes

Paul Arrowsmith and the South Manchester Parkrun team.

Big thanks to the Parkrun team

On behalf of all the runner who took part today,July 3rd, I would like to say, very well done to Paul and all the organizing team who managed yet again to put on a great run for us. It must be very daunting to arrive at a venue that you think is all ready to go and find that for reasons beyond your control you have to make a very hurried change to all your plans. I found it very impressive that the whole team very calmly got together and within a very short time produced an excellent alternative. Once again, very well done to all concerned who got stuck in and made it work for our benefit.

Event Report: May 22, 2010

Hello Parkrunners
What a day, what a weather?! We believe you enjoyed today’s run; the atmosphere of people and the company of 'excited' pets? Well done and thank you for coming along.
Thank you to our sponsors, Lucozade and the Sweatshop. To Emma (from Lucozade) who visited us today with loads of freebies; big thank you! Not forgetting the relentless commitment of the volunteers, some of whom are tied down with exams, research et’al, but endeavour to make sure that the event holds.
Before rambling on, we congratulate Laura Eaton, winner of the Sweatshop prize for Runner of the Month- in April. Well done, Laura!
Two events ago, on the 8th of May, the Platt Fields Park, Park run hosted a new record number of runners- 150!  Hopefully, numbers shall continue to grow and we rely on you, to encourage family, friends and colleagues to come along and enjoy the Park run experience. Please remember that next week is the ‘bring a friend Park run event at Platt Field Park, South Manchester.

Event news: May 22, 2010
Pre-race induction began at 9:03 with 123 runners in attendance, of which 27 are First timers. Welcome and do come along next week. As usual, runners are made aware of peculiar Health and Safety issues to ensure we are good to go.
Understandably, a repeat of the results table is unnecessary. So the results can be found at www.parkrun.org.uk/south-manchester/Results/LatestResults.aspx. This is a deviation from the known style of mentioning the first three runners through the finish line. It aims to build more of communal participation and encouragement. We believe this benefits the different age groups and athletic abilities, participating in the run.
Also, you may be aware that the event photographs taken by Lois are published on this site and can be viewed by clicking the ‘Photos’ link (at the top of the web page) or this link www.parkrun.org.uk/south-manchester/Photos.aspx. Additionally, there is a Facebook, Park run group, to which you are invited and here is the link to it: www.facebook.com/home.php
Finally, the Park run team wishes you a very good week(end) ahead. Do enjoy the sunshine, while it lasts and remember the 29th of May- ‘bring a friend’!

With best wishes
The South Manchester Parkrun Team
