Oops! These things happen!

Dear runners,

Just a quick note, we have had a recent influx of people going the wrong way on the route despite having at least as many and in most instances more marshals out on the course than we did 12 months ago.

Maybe this is due to a recent increase in numbers (for this time of year, our numbers suggest that by summer we will be smashing our previous attendance record) and many new runners!

As a result we would like to remind you all that parkrunners MUST be responsible for themselves including knowing the course before they run.

There is no obligation for any parkrun event team to mark or marshal the course where there are no health or safety concerns.

Our marshal's are a bonus and we do generally provide plenty of them, but please exercise some self reliance and don't count on them being there!

Thanks a lot

Alternative Route

Dear runners,

As many of you may be aware there was a serious assault in the park early this week and there are ongoing police investigations in the park. Tim had a look in the park last night and spoke to the on duty police officer and I have just spoken to the park staff, the situation is as follows:

The park is open as usual, however, there is no access between the show field side of the park and the lake side of the park as the brook that passes between both underground culverts is completely cordoned off, dividing the park into two distinct area's.

We have made the decision that in order to deliver our event, we will be running an alternative 3 lap course utilising the lake side of the park. We will meet at the usual location, outside of the boathouse near the lake. You must access the park from this side (either via Wilmslow Road or the usual carpark entrance) else you wont be able to get through to the lake side of the park (i.e. dont enter from Moss lane etc).

If the park opens up fully by the morning, we will use the standard route, if things remain as they are we will run the 3 lap route.

I would advise all runners to check our official website and our Facebook/twitter pages for any last minute developments later this evening.

See you in the morning!

Regards
Rob

Important: We NEED you!

 Dear runners,

Please do take this request seriously, this is not our usual volunteer request!

We hope you have all had a relaxing holiday period and are ready for a new year of parkrun!

In order to meet parkrun’s aim to provide a free 5km run every Saturday of the year South Manchester parkrun require a SEVERAL additional regular volunteers who can carry out tasks other than marshalling roles to join our core volunteering team.

We are asking the South Manchester parkrun community to step up to this task and help us to maintain this weekly event by offering to take on roles such as runner registration, timing, handing out position tokens, volunteer co-ordination and handling email enquiries etc. We are not asking you to give up all of your spare time, but to take on a little bit more responsibility for YOUR run by committing to volunteering at least once per month.

None of these roles are particularly complicated or daunting and training and support will be provided.

If you would like to help us or require more information please contact us at: southmanchesterhelpers@parkrun.com (or reply to this email).

Best Regards

Rob
