We are committed to supporting local communities, and believe it’s vital for the personal and collective wellbeing of our members, colleagues and the surrounding communities to foster and support strong, local human connections. That’s why we are proud to partner parkrun.
Our research shows that whilst a huge number of us want to get to know more local people, 25% of UK adults now don’t feel close to anyone in their local community *.
We believe that parkrun is a powerful and vital initiative to bring communities together, and is a simple way for adults and families to make local connections and friendships whilst getting fit and active at the same time.
Like parkrun, we champion volunteering – we encourage all colleagues to support good causes in their areas, and are proud to say that the number of colleagues volunteering more than doubled in 2016 and continues to grow.
As well as supporting parkrun to ensure the event continues to stay free for everyone forever, we’ll be collaborating on a number of initiatives to help make parkrun accessible to more people, and to support a range of wider community projects.
parkrun Community Heroes
We are looking to highlight the inspiring people who contribute to their local parkrun on a weekly basis, and our Community Heroes campaign provides the perfect platform to bring these people to the spotlight. If you know of a brilliant person who deserves recognition, please submit your nomination to help us select our Community Heroes - http://www.leedsbuildingsociety.co.uk/your- society/sponsorship/parkrun/nominate-your-community-hero/
parkrun Together Month
Inspire a friend or neighbour this September by encouraging them to join the parkrun community. If you already take part in parkrun, we’d love you to help get involved by inviting a local friend or neighbour to join you for one event in September, or if you’ve never tried it, why not come along to meet new people at one of the free and friendly local events – http://www.leedsbuildingsociety.co.uk/parkruntogether/
Leeds Building Society is the 5th biggest building society in the UK, and we've been helping people save and find a place to call home for over 140 years.
We are proud to be a mutual society, which means we are owned by our members, the people who have mortgages and savings with us.
If you’re used to dealing with the banks, this might sound revolutionary, but it’s how we’ve worked for 140 years. With all that experience, we work hard to develop a financial product range to meet the ever-changing needs of our members, and all the little surprises life brings. We have won a whole host of awards over the years, which reflect how we have focused on our customer service.
As well as our commitment to communities and all the benefits associated with being a mutual society, we have lots of great reasons for you to choose to save or buy your home with us.
