A lovely March run!

Temple Newsam junior parkrun #212 17.03.19

Hello everyone and welcome to the Temple Newsam junior parkrun weekly newsletter for event #212.

After the cold and rain of last Sunday (and yesterday!) we were relieved to see much better weather this morning! We were delighted to welcome 39 of you today, just slightly up on last week’s attendance, with 16 girls and 22 boys, and representatives from 4 different running clubs: High Peak Athletic Club, St Theresa’s AC, Crossgates Harriers AC and Rothwell Harriers & AC.

It was also lovely to welcome 4 first timers this morning: Max Maddison, Seth Martin and Finley Fox, who were all doing their first ever junior parkrun, and Dougie Blatherwick who usually runs at Newark junior parkun, who was running at Temple Newsam for the first time. We hope you all enjoyed your run and look forward to welcoming you back to Temple Newsam again soon.

In an exact repeat of last week’s results, 8 of you got a fantastic PB this morning: high fives go to Jacob James, Rory Bryan, Libby Gregory, Dylan Jellett, Eve Maddison, India Robinson, Lincoln Goodwin and James Harrison.

Today’s highest male age grade went to Jacob James with 68.40% and the highest female age grade was Eden Few-Finch with 59.68%.

Congratulations to Eden Few-Finch who joined the Ultra Marathon Club this morning, well done to you! Don't forget that club wristbands are given out at parkrun while certificates can be found in your individual profile.

It’s 17th March today, so we’ll ‘shine the spotlight’ on our 17th place finisher this morning – Lewis Clay. Lewis has now done 101 junior parkruns: 100 here at Temple Newsam and one at Southampton junior parkrun. He has also run twice at Rothwell parkrun. Lewis ran his first ever junior parkrun in January 2015, finishing in a time of 21:10, and his PB is currently 10:12, less than half the time of his first run! Today Lewis was the 10th boy to cross the finish line, in a time of 13:09. Fantastic running Lewis, keep it up!

Thanks as always to all of our fantastic volunteers today:Ronnie BRAY, Zak BRITTON, Ella BROWN, William BRYAN, Joe BUTLER, Kate CRONSHAW, Paul GRAHAM, Edith GRAHAM, Michael HIGGINS, Annette MCTAGGART, Rachel OWEN, David John OWEN, Neil PRICE, Jane PRICE, Jonathan RUSSELL, Graham SHOOTER, Catherine WALLACE.

Barkrun!

Temple Newsam junior parkrun #209 24.02.19

Hello everyone and welcome to the Temple Newsam junior parkrun weekly newsletter for event #209.

It was an interesting run this morning, as we shared our course with loads of dogs and their owners who were taking part in the St Gemma’s Hospice ‘Bark in the Park’ event! It was a cool, foggy start to the day, with the sun trying hard to break through the mist, and the 53 runners who took part this morning all did really well. This was a slightly bigger attendance than last week, and our largest number of runners since August last year! It also brings the total number of finishers since our event started in 2014 to 12,500 and if we added up all the kilometres you've run it would total 25,000km – that’s the same as travelling from Leeds to Bali in Indonesia and back again, or Leeds to Patagonia in South America and back again! What a lot of fantastic running!

We were delighted to welcome 5 first timers this morning: Eve Maddison, Bella Hogg, Sienna Vidal and Ruby Fletcher, who were doing their first ever junior parkrun, and Nina Armitage, who usually runs at Wakefield Thornes junior parkrun, and was running at Temple Newsam for the first time. We hope you all enjoyed your run and look forward to welcoming you back to Temple Newsam again soon.

Once again we saw some fantastic running out on our course, and there were 12 amazing PBs this morning: a huge round of applause for Reuben Owen, Francesca Ward, Eden Few-Finch, Eleanor Hunter, Rosie Thistlewood, William Armstrong, William Nabozny, Seth Miller, Samuel Shepherd, Ava Redfearn, Naoni Auchere and Archie Boyne.

Today’s highest male age grade went to Archie Boyne with 70.97% and the highest female age grade was Rosie Thistlewood with 71.41%.

Congratulations to Esme Pellew and Ralphy King who joined the Half Marathon Club this morning, well done to both of you! Don't forget that club wristbands are given out at parkrun while certificates can be found in your individual profile.

It’s 24th February today, so we’ll ‘shine the spotlight’ on our 24th place finisher this morning – Ava Redfearn. Ava has run 9 times here at Temple Newsam junior parkrun, and today she smashed exactly a minute off her time to get a new PB of 12:09! Ava runs in the JW10 category, and today she was the 10th girl to cross the line. Super running Ava, just 2 more runs to get to your half marathon milestone! We look forward to seeing you again here at Temple Newsam soon!

Thanks as always to all of our fantastic volunteers today:Ronnie BRAY, Ella BROWN, Kate CRONSHAW, Daniel GAUNT, Edith GRAHAM, Paul GRAHAM, Michael HIGGINS, Alison HUNTER, Annette MCTAGGART, Brian MCTAGGART, Keith NICKSON, Rachel OWEN, Jonathan RUSSELL, Graham SHOOTER, Catherine WALLACE.

We’re always happy to welcome new volunteers so if you’d like to be a high-vis hero, please send us a message via our Facebook page or by email, or speak to someone in a high-vis vest, and we’ll happily welcome you on board.

Lots of half term PBs!

Temple Newsam junior parkrun #208 17.02.19

Hello everyone and welcome to the Temple Newsam junior parkrun weekly newsletter for event #208.

It was a lovely morning for running and we were delighted to welcome 49 of you today, with a lovely even split of 24 boys and 23 girls (and a couple of unknowns!) This is our largest number of runners since September last year, so hopefully with the worst of the winter weather seemingly behind us (fingers crossed!) we’ll now see more and more of you each week!

It was a pleasure to welcome 3 first timers this morning: Zac Allotey, who was doing his first ever junior parkrun, and Amelia Smith and Alex Smith, who both run mainly at Wakefield Thornes junior parkrun, and were both running at Temple Newsam for the first time. We hope you all enjoyed your run and look forward to welcoming you back to Temple Newsam again soon.

There must be something about it being the half term holiday as we had 18 phenomenal PBs this morning: massive cheers for Ella Jasmine Vickers, Karly Jade Vickers, Ellie Shaw, Henry Shaw, Harley-Jay Monks-Palmer, Emily Pattison, Benjamin Merriman, Camille Porter, Reuben Owen, Joseph Copley, William Copley, Ralphy King, Jenna Gray, Isla McCurdy, Caleb Robshaw, Sophie Newborn, Jasmine Dillon and Noah Wray.

Well done to all of you! Don't forget that club wristbands are given out at parkrun while certificates can be found in your individual profile.

It’s 17th February today, so we’ll ‘shine the spotlight’ on our 17th place finisher this morning – Alex Smith. Although today was Alex’s first junior parkrun here at Temple Newsam, he has run 10 other junior parkruns at Wakefield Thornes junior parkrun and Redcar junior parkrun. Alex’s finish time today was 11:47, and his overall fastest time is 10:22 at Wakefield Thornes. Alex runs in the JM10 category, and today he was the 12th boy to cross the line. Great running Alex, and we hope to see you again here at Temple Newsam sometime soon!

I’d also like to give a special mention today to Zak Britton and Ella Brown who come along as volunteers every week, as part of their Duke of Edinburgh award scheme. Teenagers can start working towards their DofE award from the age of 14, and there are 3 award levels: Bronze, Silver and Gold. Each level has 4 sections: Volunteering, Physical, Skills and Expedition, which take several months to achieve. Zak is volunteering with us for 12 months as part of his Gold award, and Ella is volunteering for 6 months as part of her Silver award. We are so grateful to both of them for their commitment to making sure our event is a success every week. If you know anyone who is looking for a volunteering opportunity as part of their DofE award, please encourage them to get in touch with us. We also welcome regular volunteers at our Saturday morning 5km parkun event.

Thanks as always to all of our fantastic volunteers today: Ronnie BRAY, Zak BRITTON, Ella BROWN, Kate CRONSHAW, Carolyn DAVY, Michael HIGGINS, Brian MCTAGGART, Annette MCTAGGART, Hannah MILLER, Rachel OWEN, David John OWEN, Graham SHOOTER, Catherine WALLACE.
