Sunday? Don’t you mean Junior Parkrunday?

Hello everyone and welcome to the Temple Newsam junior parkrun weekly newsletter for event #186.

On a drizzly Sunday morning, we welcomed 47 of you to our event, and this week it was the boys outnumbering the girls 25 to 22, however for the second time in as many weeks, our first finisher was a girl. This morning Madeleine Patel, who was doing only her second ever junior parkrun, followed in the footsteps of last week’s female first finisher Alannah Thornton!

We had 7 first timers who joined us this morning: Benjamin Webb, William Webb, Jacob James, Alexander James, Norah Hayton and Harrison Birch, who were all doing their first ever junior parkrun; and Isobella Hutchinson, who was running at Temple Newsam for the first time. We hope you all enjoyed your run and look forward to welcoming you back to Temple Newsam again soon.

There were 4 fantastic PBs this morning: a huge well done to Callum Gaunt, Madeleine Patel, Joshua Cochrane and Ella Hutchings.

Today’s highest age grade went to William Webb with 77.49%, which puts him in 2nd place in the ‘Top 1000 Temple Newsam junior parkrun Age Graded League’! Not bad for his first ever junior parkrun!

Congratulations to Jacob Capewell who joined the Half Marathon Club this morning, and to Toby Clay who joined the Marathon Club (whilst also being a brilliant junior tail walker this morning!) Well done to both of you! Don't forget that club wristbands are given out at parkrun while certificates can be found in your individual profile.

Thanks as always to our brilliant volunteers: Cath ANDREWS, Ronnie BRAY, Zak BRITTON, Ella BROWN, Benjamin CLAY, Toby CLAY, Kate CRONSHAW, Mr Sam CUSSEN, Michael HIGGINS, Annette MCTAGGART, Brian MCTAGGART, Janet MUJTABA, Amy RUSSELL, Jonathan RUSSELL, Lucy RUSSELL, Graham SHOOTER

Don’t forget that next week it’s our 4th birthday and kids’ takeover day! We’ve had quite a few children who have already signed up to be a hi-vis hero, but we still need some more. If you have a Mini-Me who would like to get involved (they will be supervised by an adult volunteer) then please get in touch via our Facebook page. Roles still available are:
5 x marshals
1 x tail walker
1 x timer
1 x Run Director

That’s it for today. See you next week, and remember our start time is now 9am every week!

We hope you all enjoyed your run and look forward to welcoming you back to Temple Newsam again soon.

Yes, we will be giving the kids all the power to run their event. Superheroes and sunshine!

Temple Newsam junior parkrun #184 02.09.18

Hello everyone and welcome to the Temple Newsam junior parkrun weekly newsletter for event #184.

This morning was our epic superhero event to mark our new start time of 9am. We saw 42 incredible runners assemble at the start line to zoom, fly and zip round our 2km course, and it was brilliant to see all your fantastic costumes. A special thank you to Cath for the yummy sweets for the runners, and biscuits for the volunteers!

We had 4 super first timers joining us this morning, all doing their first ever parkrun: Luca Marshall, Olivia Marshall, Matthew Keeling and Maisie Smith. We hope you enjoyed your run and look forward to welcoming you back to Temple Newsam again soon.

The superhero theme really encouraged you all to rocket around the course, and 8 of you dashed to the line to get a PB! Congratulations to this morning’s masters of the universe (well, Temple Newsam anyway!) Oliver Bowden, Imogen Jellett, Dylan Jellett, Miranda Jones, Thomas Smith, Evie Carter, Emily Strickland and Zara Trawally.

Looking at today’s stats I’d like to make a special mention for Reuben Owen, who was the first finisher for the 7th time so far this year, which puts him into 5th place on the leaderboard for ‘Runners with most first place finishes at Temple Newsam junior parkrun’! However, he’s got some way to go to beat Sophie Turner’s record of 58 first place finishes! And another special mention to Dylan Jellett, who achieved today’s highest age grading! His age grading of 65.10% puts him at 125th place in the ‘Top 1000 Temple Newsam junior parkrun Age Graded League’! The highest ever age grading at our event is 79.43% which was achieved by the course record holder Thomas Mills in 2015. Have you ever looked at your age grading? Where do you come in the top 1000 gradings? Take a look on http://www.parkrun.org.uk/templenewsam-juniors/results/agegradedleague/

Thanks as always to our amazing volunteers (The Guardians of the Parkrun!): Cath ANDREWS, Pete ANDREWS, Lucy ANDREWS, Daniel AYRES, Gregory BAILEY, Michelle BENNETT, Ronnie BRAY, Michael HIGGINS, Jeanette KURYLIW, Dominic KURYLIW, Eoghan MAGUIRE, Brian MCTAGGART, Annette MCTAGGART, Janet MUJTABA, Rachel OWEN, David John OWEN, Michelle PARKER, Graham SHOOTER, Paula WATSON

That’s it for today. See you next week, and remember it wasn’t just a one-off this morning, our start time is now 9am every week!

A dry start and a raining finish!

Temple Newsam junior parkrun #183 26.08.18

Hello everyone and welcome to the Temple Newsam junior parkrun weekly newsletter for event #183.

This morning it felt like the summer’s over, with typical bank holiday weather: cool, overcast and then just as we lined up at the start, the rain began. But it didn’t stop the smiles, the high fives and the parkrun magic happening at Temple Newsam! There were 53 intrepid juniors taking part this morning (including Minnie Mouse and a chicken!) and I’m pleased to report that we’re now up to 5 weeks in a row without a false start!

It was lovely to see 7 first timers joining us this morning: Annabel Pybus, Matthew Seal and Ryan Hoodless, who were all running their first ever junior parkrun; and Poppy Wilson, Zachary Scherer, Joshua Scherer and Maisie Wilson, who were all running here for the first time. We hope you enjoyed your run and look forward to welcoming you back to Temple Newsam again soon.

Today we had exactly the same number of PBs as last week, with 11 of you achieving your fastest ever time at Temple Newsam! Extra special high fives go out to Brody Allan, Louis Formhals, Hattie Formhals, Edith Graham, Imogen Jellett, William Westwood-Mann, Luka Kuryliw, Dewi Earl-Speed, James Gold, Leo Crawford and Georgie Cooper.

Congratulations also to Rebecca Strickland who joined the Half Marathon Club this morning. Don't forget that club wristbands are given out at parkrun while certificates can be found in your individual profile.

I’m always interested to look at the stats and this morning we had a pretty even balance of genders, with 29 boys and 24 girls taking part. But the younger runners massively outnumbered the older ones today: we had 21 runners in the JM10 category but only 5 in the JM11-14, and 21 runners in the JW10 category but only 3 in the JW11-14. I also noticed that a couple of you finished in exactly the same position as last week! Have you ever finished in exactly the same position, or in exactly the same time, two weeks in a row?

Thanks as always to our fabulous volunteers: Cath ANDREWS, Pete ANDREWS, Elliot ANDREWS, Ronnie BRAY, Kate CRONSHAW, Alan DAVY, Paul GRAHAM, Michael HIGGINS, Peter HILL, Dominic KURYLIW, Annette MCTAGGART, Brian MCTAGGART, Serena MELJAN, Janet MUJTABA, Michelle PARKER, Liz SCHERER, Graham SHOOTER.

A special mention goes to our regular Tail Walker - Pete Andrews, for volunteering as tail walker a phonenimal 100 times. 94 times with us at our junior event and 6 times for the Temple Newsam adults. Well done Pete, we're really proud of you!

We are always happy to welcome new volunteers, no experience is necessary! If you would like to give it a go, just speak to someone in a hi-vis vest (or let us know via our Facebook page or e-mail) and we will happily get you involved.

That’s it for today. See you next week at our new start time of 9am - remember it’s superhero week so please come dressed up as your favourite superhero - parents included!
