First Timers and Volunteers Galore!

Hello everyone and welcome to the Temple Newsam junior parkrun weekly newsletter for event #177.

So England didn’t quite make it to the World Cup Final but that didn’t stop 67 of you ‘coming home’ to Temple Newsam for another hot, sunny run in the park! In fact, you were all so keen and eager to run this morning that we had a spectacular false start – Graham hadn’t even finished saying “Get set...” and you were off!

It was wonderful to see 21 first timers joining us this morning: Ryan Kluziak, Rory Masek, Daisy Allotey, Abigayle Hill, Max Grooby, William Kilner, Chloe Kilner, Morgan Smith-Manley, Joshua Barton, Archie Nisbet, Lily Stephenson, Isaac Abraham, Zak Gale and Hope Cassidy, who were all running their first ever junior parkrun; along with Oliver Hayes, Amber Hayes, Noah Gale, Luke Gale, Lyle Kershaw, Sophie Hinton and Noah Swoboda, who all ran for the first time at Temple Newsam. We hope you enjoyed your run and look forward to welcoming you back to Temple Newsam again soon.

We were also delighted to welcome Sharp Lane Primary School’s running club, organised by their pastoral manager Mrs Smith. It was lovely to see you all enjoying yourselves out on the course and we hope you’re feeling really proud of your achievements today.

The hot sun wasn’t stopping you this morning, as 9 of you achieved a super PB! High fives for Joshua Cochrane, Rebecca Strickland, Emily Strickland, Rohan Masek, Josephine Robins, Orlaith Marsh and William Wilson. Congratulations to Annabelle Fenton who joined the Half Marathon Club this morning. Don't forget that club wristbands are given out at parkrun while certificates can be found in your individual profile.

Thanks as always to our amazing volunteers: Cath ANDREWS, Elliot ANDREWS, Pete ANDREWS, Nicky BEST, Ella BROWN, Kate CRONSHAW, Mr Sam CUSSEN, Michael HIGGINS, Brian MCTAGGART, Annette MCTAGGART, Ella MOULE, Rachel OWEN, David John OWEN, Amy RUSSELL, Jonathan RUSSELL, Lucy Russell, Graham SHOOTER, Debbie SMITH, Sarah WILSON

We are always happy to welcome new volunteers, no experience is necessary! If you would like to give it a go, just speak to someone in a hi-vis vest (or let us know via our Facebook page) and we will happily get you involved.

A reminder that from Sunday 2nd September the new start time for Temple Newsam junior parkrun will be 9am to meet other junior parkrun times around the UK. We appreciate that this time change may not suit everyone, but we hope that you will support this decision and continue to help make our parkrun magic happen.

That’s it for today. See you next week!

Making our mark alongside top UK sports!

Hello everyone and welcome to the Temple Newsam junior parkrun weekly newsletter for event #176.

It’s been a packed weekend of exciting sport: Wimbledon tennis, Tour de France cycling, the British Grand Prix with Lewis Hamilton in pole position, England making it through to the semi finals of the football World Cup, the Leeds 10k (a huge well done to some of our regular volunteers who braved the heat this morning to run it), and of course the crowning glory: 49 of you running 2k through the gorgeous grounds of Temple Newsam!

It was our pleasure to welcome another 5 first timers this morning, who were all running their first ever junior parkrun: Neve Longden, Alfie Longden, Orlaith Marsh, Miller Ross and Oscar Smith. We hope you enjoyed your run and look forward to welcoming you back to Temple Newsam again soon.

Even though it was ridiculously hot this morning, 7 of you achieved a brilliant PB! A huge round of applause to Imogen Jellett, Dylan Jellett, Isla Hasty, Emily Dempster, Lucas Donnelly, Maisie Grimes and Henry Marsh.

And we should also congratulate Keira Jones who was our first finisher this morning – it’s fairly unusual for a female to finish first rather than a male. In fact, the last time it happened at Temple Newsam was almost exactly a year ago on 30.7.17!

Thanks as always to our amazing volunteers: Cath ANDREWS, Ronnie BRAY, Kate CRONSHAW, Ross FALLOON, Michael HIGGINS, Jenny JENNINGS, Andrew MANLEY, Brian MCTAGGART, Annette MCTAGGART, Rachel OWEN, David John OWEN, John ROBSON, Graham SHOOTER, Sarah WILSON, Megan WOOD

More fun in the sun!

Hello everyone and welcome to the Temple Newsam junior parkrun weekly newsletter for event #175.

It was another scorcher of a run today! The hot weather didn’t deter you from running, walking, jogging and skipping around the park, as 67 boys and girls crossed the finish line today, just slightly higher than our average number of runners. There were almost equal numbers of boys and girls today: 34 girls and 33 boys. The British Athletics Championships have been taking place this weekend, and I wonder if we’ll see any of you there taking part in years to come!

We were delighted to welcome 5 first timers this morning, who were all running their first ever junior parkrun: Ailie Masek, Rohan Masek, Eoin Donnelly, Lucas Donnelly and Alexa Murray. We hope you enjoyed your run and look forward to welcoming you back to Temple Newsam again soon.

Another sunny run in the park!

Hello everyone and welcome to the Temple Newsam junior parkrun weekly newsletter for event #174. On the day that England played their second World Cup match, 83 of you came out for a run in the sun (maybe you wanted to get away from the football, or maybe you wanted a bit of exercise before settling down to watch the match later!) Yet again we had beautiful blue skies and hot, sunny weather for our run this morning but the heat didn’t seem to put any of you off, there were loads of smiley faces as you crossed the finish line. It was great to see so many of you carrying a water bottle - it’s so important to stay well hydrated in the hot weather, along with wearing a hat and sun cream.

The girls slightly outnumbered the boys this morning, with 44 girls taking part as opposed to 39 boys. And it was lovely to see so many brothers and sisters, and also friends who were running together and encouraging each other over that finish line. Please remember though that you must only cross the finish line once (otherwise we have a nightmare trying to sort out the results!)

This morning we welcomed 13 first timers: Isabella Spalding, Archie Spalding, Jackson Skilbeck, Edie Skilbeck, Martha Abbey-Pugh, Darcie Abbey-Pugh, Henry Marsh, Layla Wright, Heidi Crossland and Oliver Crossland, who all ran their first ever junior parkrun this morning; and Alexander Wright, Kai Taylor and Jasmine Taylor who all ran at Temple Newsam for the first time. We hope you enjoyed your run and look forward to welcoming you back to Temple Newsam again soon.

Yet again the sunshine brought out the best in you, with 19 of you achieving a fantastic PB this morning! A massive round of applause for Annabelle Reader, Demi McKenzie, Izzy Neale, James Pearson, Daniel Thomas Pearson, Ailsa Sayles, Aiden Huggett, Oliver Pow, Jacob Pow, Brandon Duckworth, Alexander Brass, Daisy Fitzpatrick, Nathan Bagley, Lewis Clay, Ewan Hardt, Molly Ullyart, Fred Tattersall, Thomas Theepakorn Herrington and Ava Hewitt.

Once again we saw a great number of milestone runs this morning. Into our Half Marathon Club go Eva Mae Watson, Mollie Cullum, Molly Ullyart and Harriet Moss; while Elliot Andrews ran his 100th junior parkrun, having run them all here at Temple Newsam. Well done to all of you on your special achievements, you can collect your wrist band at your next run. Don't forget that certificates can be found in your individual profile.

Thanks as always to our amazing volunteers: Cath ANDREWS, Pete ANDREWS, Becky BAVILL, Ronnie BRAY, Ella BROWN, Mr Sam CUSSEN, Michael HIGGINS, Peter HILL, James and Rupert MCGREGOR, Brian MCTAGGART, Annette MCTAGGART, Rachel OWEN, David John OWEN, Jenny PURPLE, Anna SHARROTT, Graham SHOOTER, Pamela WEEKS If you would like to volunteer, just speak to someone in a hi-vis vest (or let us know via our Facebook page) and we will happily get you involved. Let’s Rock Father’s Day – Junior parkrun style!

Hello everyone and welcome to the Temple Newsam junior parkrun weekly newsletter for event #173.

Saturday saw the park play host to the Let’s Rock 80s Festival, and although they were busy this morning dismantling all the equipment, we were still able to go ahead with our run and you all totally rocked as 74 of you zoomed round the course! It’s always lovely to see so many grown ups running with you, but today it was extra special to see all the dads running – what a lovely way to celebrate Father’s Day!

A big welcome to 2 first timers, Ava Hewitt and Henry Maclellan, who both ran their first ever parkrun this morning. We hope you enjoyed your run and look forward to welcoming you back to Temple Newsam again soon.

We had another amazing collection of PBs today, with 21 of you achieving a fantastic PB! A massive round of applause for Rhion Earl-Speed, Carys Earl-Speed, Lily Parkinson, Isaac White, Florence Duncan, Joshua Cochcrane, Thomas Lillie, Tom Baxter, Molly Grantham, Jessica Senior, William Senior, Brody Allan, Jacob Capewell, Sam Bonning, Evie Carter, Jake Woolley, Sophie Groot, Evie Leaf, William Armstrong, Oliver Hill and Faith Lawrance.

Like last week, we also saw a huge number of milestone runs this morning. Into our Half Marathon Club go Matilda Baxter, James Harrison, Jasper Groot and Rowan Harrison-Taylor; and Sam Lloyd-Tarin and Florence Duncan both enter the Marathon Club. Well done, you can collect your wrist band at your next run. Don't forget that certificates can be found in your individual profile.

Junior parkrunners become a member of the Half Marathon Club when they have completed 11 runs; after 21 runs they join the Marathon Club and when they’ve done 50 runs they can join the Ultra Marathon Club. The certificates and wristbands are a lovely memento and are great for sharing with your friends if you have a special achievement assembly at your school! You might even be able to encourage your friends to come and join us one week!

Thanks as always to our amazing volunteers: Cath ANDREWS, Pete ANDREWS, Daniel AYRES, Ronnie BRAY, Ella BROWN, Paul GRAHAM, Michael HIGGINS, Peter HILL, James and Rupert MCGREGOR, Brian MCTAGGART, Annette MCTAGGART, Jane PRICE, Jonathan RUSSELL, Amy RUSSELL, Graham SHOOTER, Paula WATSON, Pamela WEEKS
