Junior parkrun at Jordanstown???

There are proposals to start a Junior parkrun at Jordanstown within the grounds of Ulster University.

The organiser is looking for local people who might be interested in volunteering at this Junior parkrun. To that end he has asked if we would publicise his appeal.

Junior parkrun is a shorter distance and takes place on Sunday mornings. They operate on the same principles as parkrun.

They are especially interested in hearing from parents of children who might participate and those with parkrun volunteering experience. Let me know if it's of interest to you and I'll pass on your details to the organising committee.

Cheers - Stephen B

Run Report for Event No. 129

Valley parkrun, Newtownabbey Event number 129 - 18th February 2017

It’s always good to have parkrun tourists join us at the Valley. Yesterday we welcomed the Chadwell family from Cardiff. Ewen, Steve and Karen were sharing their half term break by parkrunning and then watching their beloved Cardiff Devils put the Belfast Giants to the sword - twice !!!!! We forgive you guys and hope you had a great time in Northern Ireland. We also welcomed 10 other new faces to the Valley a...nd you are all equally welcome. We look forward to seeing you again.

Thank you to all our Volunteers this week including 8 year old Sophie Davidson who took the photos. Dont forget without the Volunteers parkrun can not happen. If you want to run there are lots of roles that allow you to run and volunteer. Special thanks to Eadaoin Donaldson who normally helps at the Waterworks who processed the results yesterday.

Talking of the volunteers. A number of them attended first aid and AED (Defib) training during the week. We would like to thank Pam Bell for the brilliant training of the core team. Stephen will be organising further training so if you are interested in attending please let Stephen or one of the volunteers know. A reminder an AED is attached to the front door of the Pavillion adjacent to the start line.

Valley parkrun run report for event number 128 - 11th February 2017.

Two runners achieved milestones this week - Both Anthony McKinley & Alister Morrison recorded their 50th parkrun.

A cold morning at the V36 Park especially for the volunteers who were standing around whilst the rest of you were working up a sweat! Speaking of working up a sweat ...... I had a few beads on my forehead whenever I had 5 pages of red screen at the start of the results processing. James William BROWN (VM55-59) was graded 77.97% for the time 20:03 (third overall).
Tom FLEMING (JM10) was graded 76.94% for the time 21:15 (10th overall).

Valley parkrun – Run Report No. 127

Valley parkrun, Newtownabbey, Event number 127, 4th February 2017

It was a chilly start to the morning but thankfully the sun made an appearance for the 127th Valley Parkrun.

96 runners took to the startline of whom 7 were first timers (hopefully they will come back and join us again). Big pat on the back to the following 12 runners who recorded new personal bests:

Nick HAWTHORNE, Rosalind STITT, Deirdre MCCANN, Paul CRAWFORD, Fiona WYLIE, Angela WARD, Tanya WRAY, Chris MCATEE, Ryan MCCABE, David GIBSON, Adam LIVINGSTON and Sharon DUNN. Fantastic achievements, keep up the great efforts!

It was great to have representatives from the following athletics clubs taking part:

Seapark, Run Newtownabbey, Mallusk Harriers, Orangegrove, Jog Belfast, Invictus Triathlon Club, East Antrim Harriers, County Antrim Harriers, B.A.R.F, Annadale Striders, Albertville Harriers, and of course Julie Rooney from the less widely known '100% Me' athletic club ;-)

For the men, Ciaran MCKENDRY (VM35-39) of Annadale Striders, kept it consistent, coming in first over the line in 18:25 for the 11th time in 12 appearances. James KITCHIN (VM45-49) of East Antrim Harriers AC, was second over the line in 19:18. James has been first to finish on 2 previous occasions. James William BROWN (VM55-59) of B.A.R.F, was third over the line in 19:49. Jim has been first to finish on 8 previous occasions.

Great running lads.

For the women, Nuala MULDOON (VW35-39) of Mallusk Harriers, was first (23rd overall) over the line in 24:42 - 36th time in 62 appearances. *Nuala is obviously quite capable of running a sub 17 min parkrun when she is in the mood but often takes it easy in order to socialise with friends while running*. Honorata SIERADZAN BANASIK (VW35-39) (Unattached) was second (35th overall) over the line in 25:38. Joanne MILNE (SW30-34) of Mallusk Harriers, was third (44th overall) over the line in 27:26.

Well done ladies!  *Might not be true*

Annual points competition:

Men:

Rick GRAY (Unattached) 2339 pts.
Grzegorz GRAJEK (Unattached) 2174 pts.
Neal REILLY (Unattached) 1931 pts.

Women:

Frances KANE (Unattached) 1833 pts.
Nuala MULDOON (Mallusk Harriers) 1757 pts.
Tracey GRAHAM (Unattached) 1674 pts.

Another big well done to Rosalind Stitt and wee Ben Davidson celebrated their 50th Parkruns with us this morning. A fantastic achievement! Check out the fab pics from Ben's younger sister Chloe on our Facebook page.

As always, a huge thankyou to the volunteers who give up their Saturday mornings to make our parkrun happen.
