Aber parkrun event 403

4th September 2021

This week, on a lovely sunny morning,114 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 17 were first timers and 15 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 10 different clubs took part. We had several visitors from other parkruns, and we need to say happy birthday to Johanna from Derby.

Nic Herriot was running as part of a world record breaking attempt on the most people to run a remote 5km in 24 hours - if you want to join in this belatedly, you're too late for the tshirt and medal, but you can upload your evidence from your tracking app here: https://m.facebook.com/events/919576681941860/?acontext=%7B%22event_action_history%22%3A%5B%7B%22mechanism%22%3A%22search_results%22%2C%22surface%22%3A%22search%22%7D%5D%2C%22ref_notif_type%22%3Anull%7D

It's also interesting to hear via Facebook that Karen Penny, a parkrunner from Newport, who joined us here in June 2019, has now reached her target of £100,000 raised for dementia research. She still has a few weeks to go before finishing her epic trek around the coasts of Britain and Ireland in Aberdeen. Karen has been including as many park runs as possible on her walk. You can find her on Facebook at Karen Penny The Penny Rolls On Walking Britain and Ireland.

Leap Day parkrun 2020, Aberystwyth event 398

I am sure we are all very relieved that the hail held off until after the results were processed. While parkrun was happening the sun shone brightly, even if the breeze was chilly. Well done everyone on avoiding the puddle encroaching a little onto the path by the play area.
This week we had several visitors thanks to the visiting day at the university, and also some flood and waterlogging refugees from other parkruns  that had to cancel.

Congratulations to Alex on completing his 50th parkrun and thanks for the cakes.

Tomorrow regular park runner Ruth Flatman  is hosting the St David’s Day Cake-a-thon at St Paul’s Methodist Centre (corner of Bath St and Queens Rd), 3-5pm. This afternoon tea will celebrate Ruth qualifying to represent Team GB in the World Triathlon Championships in Canada this August. Come and eat cake; small donations towards the cost of the GB trisuit are appreciated.

Chilly and windy but a great turnout!

Well done to everyone who took part on this blustery morning. Away from the wind it wasn't that cold, and the first signs of Spring were in evidence with snowdrops and crocuses in the park. Despite the wind, 20 people somehow managed to get PBs! It was lovely to see a few new faces, and we all hope that the visitor who slipped and fell on one of the corners is OK (her family were spectating so she had people to look after her, and luckily Nurse Eli was running right behind her - thanks Eli!). Congratulations to Heather who celebrated her 50th parkrun.

Christmas Day parkrun 2019

127 parkrunners chose to start their Aberystwyth Christmas Day with a free, fun 5k in the park, smashing our previous Christmas Day attendance record, with some impressive fancy dress on show! 24 runners were first timers at the event, either visiting us or running their first ever parkrun - welcome to you all. We had lots of new personal best times recorded and plenty smiling faces crossing the finish line. Jade Gaitely celebrated her 50th parkrun and Jane James her 100th parkrun - congratulations to both ladies!

A huge thank you to Dan and the team of volunteers without whom the event wouldn't have happened.

If you finished in 15th place, or know the runner who did, can you possibly contact us to arrange the safe return of finish token no 15...

Nadolig Llawen - Merry Christmas!

Aberystwyth parkrun Event number 386 21st December 2019

Twas the Park Run before Christmas, when all through the park not a creature was stirring, not even a lark.

Who are we kidding? We had 95 Lords and Ladies a-leaping across puddles, and dancing across the finish line, not to mention 13 drummers runners ringing the bell for their PB’s.

In the mild but damp weather we had at least 5 tourist runners and 4 first timers, thank you to them for joining us today. Special mention  this week goes to our very own reluctant runner (her words not ours)  Julia Liebeschuetz  who raced across the finish line with nothing but a podcast about coffee to assist her, especially as her sprint marker had been removed last week. Well done Julia for her determination for that strong finish

Parkrun day or Saturday as normal folk call it dawned to reveal dry, bright and breezy conditions and a managable temperature for running. It was a nice change for the two of us to be able to walk across from Llanbadarn. Whilst we are not new to Aber parkrun it is always great to be back at what has to be one of the friendliest runs we have done. Even if we have driven over 220 miles to be with family this weekend it counts for the carbon footprint if we can walk to a parkrun???

THIS week 124 runners, joggers, walkers, completed the out and back plus 3 laps of Plascrug.

There were 16 first timers to the course, including 2 who chose this as their first ever parkrun. Welcome to parkrun -  Megan RODGERS and Tom MORRISSEY. Hope it is one you will remember. Don’t expect cake every week!!!

Visitors today included people from Bangor, Leamington Spa, Scunthorpe & Wycombe Forest amongst others. We hope you all enjoyed it and come back soon.

An incredible 21 of you recorded new Personal Bests. Congratulations one & all.

This week there were 7 UNKNOWNS – All you have to do is register yourself with parkrun once & once only & then DFYB……. PLEASE if you didn’t hand your finish token in can you let one of the organising team have it back next week. We need to re-use each & everyone token every week!!!

Today's full results and a complete event history can be found on the Aberystwyth parkrun website.

Thanks for allowing us to share your parkrun this morning. Stay healthy and hope we will see some of you when we return over the Christmas break!!!
