Alderford Lake parkrun – Event #39 09-10-21

Cool and still conditions greeted the 108 participants at Alderford Lake this week, ideal for running a PB, which an amazing 26 people managed, so well done to them. We had competitors from as far afield as Barnsley, and also some uber tourists in attendance, 2 of the top 20 on the UK most events list in myself and Mark A Jennings who was resplendent in the blue 500 shirt.

Around the lovely course the autumn colours tantalisingly appeared and I am told that the maize field has lost all its maize but it did allow for a good forward view. The wooded section was especially pleasant and the view across towards the finish may have made it look closer than it was but I’m sure on the second lap that was the carrot we all needed!

There were some Sterling efforts towards the rear of the field with real determination even if everyone did not finish I am sure that they will be back and making progress week on week which is what parkrun is all about. A great mix of young and old, from 7 to 70, and there was a battle royale at the head of the field as Christopher Larkin and Robert Weston were stride for stride round the whole course, with Christopher just prevailing in what must have been a sprint finish. Our First Lady was Ruth Pryce in 23rd place. It was especially great to see 9 people complete their first parkrun today, hopefully the first of many…
A huge round of applause to all the volunteers who worked like a well oiled machine to ensure the event went smoothly, and did so with a smile and a warm welcome. Special thanks to Janice Eastwood for keeping me company on the way round, hope you are back in marathon training soon!
I hope everyone’s feet have dried out and hope to see you back on the start line next week!
